    About Adilabad District


    The Adilabad district was named after the ruler of Bijapur Sultanate, Ali Adil Shah, who fouinded the city
    Adilabad District is on the northern part of the state of Andhra Pradesh. The district has borders connected in the north by Yeotmal and Chanda district of Maharastra, on the east by Chanda district, on the south by Karimnagar and Nizamabad districts and on the west by Nanded district of Maharastra State.

    Adilabad district Administration


    Adilabad town is the administrative headquarters of the Adilabad District.
    The District consists of 52 Mandals and 1743 villages of which 1557 villages are inhabited and 186 villages are not. There are 7 Muncipalities in the District. The District is divided into 5 divisions Adilabad ,) Nirmal ,Utnoor, Asifabad,and Mancherial.
    The district and its headquarters Adilabad town dervies their name from the King of Bijapur Ali Adil Shah who found and built the city.
    The district has an area of 16,128 sq km and is the fifth largest district the state of Andhra Pradesh and the population is 2,488,003 as per the 2001 census details.

    History of Adilabad


    Different Dynasties ruled this region namely the Mauryas,Staavahanas, Vakatakas,Chaludyasof Badami, Rashtrakututs, Chalukyas of Kalyani, Mughals,Bhosle Rajes of Nagpur and Asaf Jahis, besides the Gond Rajas of Sirpur and Chanda dynasty.
    Only in the year 1905 the status of this erstwhile sub-district was raised to that of an independent district with Adilabad as its headquarters by the Britishers.

    Forests and plantations of Adilabad


    Dry deciduous forests are found in the region and they are of 6944.5 sq.kms. area and forms nearly 43% of the total area of the district.
    Sericultural systems of forest management are used for the selection cum improvement. Through this method, conversions of natural forests into Teak, Eucalyptus and bamboo are planted by felling the unnecessary trees and maintain the forests.

    Climate of the region

    as per the meteorological observatory at Adilabad is that it is characterized by hot summer, general dry except during the south-west monsoon season. The normal rainfall of the district is 1044.5 mm and most of iy is during SW Monsoon. The place is not that cold with temperature between 29* C - 15*C, generally but even 10*C have been recorded at times.

    Crafts in Adilabad


    Toy making crafts Dhokra casting crafts are very popular in Adilabad District and Nirmal for toy making & Ushagaon, Jamgaon & Keslaguda village of Jainoor & Kerameri mandal for Dhokra casting, as provided a natural location for the world famoys toys & Dhokra casting. The products were about features reflecting the local life and environment but on the recent days, trend is on to making animals, birds, fruits and vegetables which look as real as the natural ones.

    There 9 hospitals under Andhra Pradesh Vaidya Vidhana Parishad of the Andhra Government in Adilabad district and a district hospital too. Two area hospitals in Mancherial and Bhainsa and seven community health centres at Asifabad, Bellampalle, Khanapur, Nirmal, Sirpur chinnoor and Utnoor as well.
