    History of Udham Singh Nagar District


    Udham Singh Nagar lies in the vicinity of the Kumaon hill ranges. This district was apart of the Nainital district till Tarai belt was separated and given a new identity as Udham Singh Nagar in 1995. earlier to 1948 this area was neglected due to the extremities in climate and Marshy lands, rains which lasted months, a place full of wild animals, diseases and no means of transportation. After 1948 slowly and steadily the place improved and now you can see people from Kashmir, Punjab, Kerala, Eastern UP, Garhwal, Kumaion, Bengal, Hariyana, Rajasthan and Nepal live in groups in this district to prove Unity is Diversity.

    Udham Singh Nagar district, with Rudrapur as its administrative headquarters, is bounded by Nainital District on the north, by Champawat District on the northeast, by Nepal on the east, and by Uttar Pradesh state on the south and west of it.
    Bijnour, Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Pilibhit ,Champawat, Nainital are the neighbouring districts of Udham Singh Nagar and the neighbouring country is Nepal. As per the 2001 census Udham Singh Nagar district has 1,235,614 as population

Atariya mandir mela and Chaiti mandir mela are very well known where one can find local folk dances and other programs and mingle with local culture and learn about their traditions.
