Mumbai Suburban District plus the mumbai district togethjer make one greater Mumbai Metropolis. Suburban Mumbai district is under the administration of Konkan division and is the second smallest district of Maharashtra state.
Bandra is the headquarters of the district and the jurisdiction of the state is from Bandra to Dahisarfrom Kurla Chuna bhatti to Mulund, and upto Trombay Creek. This is a very highly populated area with about 8587000 according to 2001 census details.
This district consists of five tehsils Mulund, Kurla, Bandra, Andheri, and Borivali.
There are numerous tourist spots in the area like , Mount Mary Church, Mahakali Caves, Essel World, Water Kingdom, Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Aarey Colony, Kanheri Caves, Film City, Tulsi Lake, Vihar Lake and Powai Lake. River Mithi or River Mahim as it is also called is a monsoon riverand swells up during the seasonal rains.
This river has become filthy since the effluence from the industrial units and the slum area flow through as also the excess water from the seasonal rain.
Trombay is well known for oits industries and started out as an industrial area. India's first Nuclear centre Bhabah Atomic Research center BARC is in Trombay area and a nagar itself has been formed for its working population.
This area has a cosmopolitan population consisting of Tamilians along with Maharashtrians followed by Keralites, Punjabis, Sindhis and Gujarathies.

Bandra is on the western line of the Mumbai Suburban Railway as it is on the suburban neighborhood in the Western Mumbai. Bandra-Kurla complex is coming up on the marshy land on either side of Mahim Creek.Asian Heart Institute, ICICI Bank, Bharat Diamond Bourse, Dhirubhai Ambani International School, American School of Bombay, Fortune500 etc are some of the offices located in this BKC Bandra Kurla Complex.
Borivali or Borivili is located in the north-west section of Mumbai and is approximately 18 kilometres from Mumbai Airport and 33.4 kilometres from Churchgate Railway Station.
Sanjay Gandhi National Park, located in the eastern part of Borivali near the Western Express Highway has a few lions and panthers and a a 4th century BCE archaeological site called Kanheri Caves. This is famous as it can also be used as a crossover point for Essel World, Water Kingdom and a quick way to reach Gorai village.
