T. R. Baalu, one of the cabinet ministers of the 14th Lok Sabha. He have been contesting from the south Chennai constituency. After delimitation in the year 2008, he contested from the Sriperumbudur constituency.
Sriperumbudur, after delimitation have become a very big constituency. Previously this constituency was reserved for SC and after delimitation that status was removed. This constituency now includes Tambaram, Pallavaram, Alandur, Ambattur and Maduravoyal apart from Gummidipoondi, Ponneri, Sriperumbudur, Poonamallee, Tiruttani.
There was a tough competiton between T. R. Baalu of DMK and A. K. Moorty of PMK. From DMDK Arun Subramanian contested and Rajappa of Bhujan Samaj Party also contested.
It is T. R. Baalu, who emerged the winner in the election held in 2009
