Job Description

1) Shift operations: Handle shift plant activities for production of Butene-1 and various grades of LLDPE/HDPE in Polyethylene plant.
2) Quality control: Quality control of product during shift for Butene-1 and various grades of LLDPE/HDPE. Report reasons for deviations in product quality and corrective measures taken. Effluent/ storm water quality monitoring & take quick corrective actions.
3) Activity log: Ensures all the activities carried out during the shift such as safety issues/incidents, process upsets, extrusion upsets, actions for quality deviations, deviations in production rates, problem/constraints in equipment, equipment change-over, plant preservation activities etc. are logged in ShiftEngineer log book.
4) Equipment constraints/problems: Ensure the problems/constraints noted on the equipment are immediately notified to maintenance. Follow up with maintenance for remedial action.
5) Standard Operating Procedures, process improvements etc: Ensure that all the plant operational activities, start-ups and shutdowns are carried out safely as per the Licenser/internally developed SOPs (Standard operating procedures).
6) Monitoring of plant parameters: Monitoring of plant operational parameters and take-up quick corrective measures in case of deviations.
7) Maintenance activities: Ensures preparation of equipment for hand-over to maintenance as per the maintenance plan. Supervision of maintenance activities carried out during the shift & logging of their status in logbook.
8) Feed back: Gives feed back on the plant operations (shutdown/emergency situations, extrusion upsets, deviations in product quality, equipment problem, constraints in maintaining programmed production rates, status on maintenance activities etc.) to plant superintendent and plant shift superintendent on day to day basis.
9) MIS reports: Prepares and sends out the following reports.
a) Daily production report
b) FIR, Incident/Accident report, near miss report
c) MIV for issue of chemicals at odd hours through PSS
10) TAM/Shutdown Activities:
a) Compilation of activities for TAM or any major plant Shutdown.
b) Preparation of SOP for start-up & shutdown of each equipment involved in TAM.
c) Preparation of blinding & de-blinding lists for all the equipment covered under TAM/Shutdown
d) Safe handing over of equipment for maintenance activities.
e) Planning & implementation of plant preservation activities in case of long shutdown.
11) Training & On the job training:
a) Train/impart training (through SOP manual and OJT) to DET, GET, new joinee in panel/field on all plant SOPs, emergency procedures.
b) Preparation of training modules for DET, GET, new joinee for implementation
12) Emergencies:
a) Take charge of plant emergency situations and give instructions/guidelines to panel/ field staff to overcome the plant emergency situations.
13) Communication with user departments: Ensures the communication of actions (such as reactor feed pump start-up to power/utility plant, plant start-up/shutdown to Olefins plant etc.) that necessitate supplier department actions (power plant, utilities, Olefins, offsite etc.) so as to prevent plant trips.
14) Shift hand-over: Ensures the activities carried out during the shift are effectively communicated to the relieving shift and vice versa.

Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals Company Limited is a polyolefin producer based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. Established in 1988, Eleme was a 100 per cent subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). The Indorama Group was declared core investor by the National Council of Privatisation in 2005. The privatisation process of EPCL began in May 2005 and was completed in May 2006. The Eleme Petrochemicals complex is located in Eleme town near the Nigerian city of Port Harcourt in Rivers State. It was built in 1995 by a consortium comprising of Chiyoda, JGC, and Kobe Steel, of Japan, Technimont of Italy, and Spie Batignolles of France. The complex comprises of an olefins unit, a polyolefins unit, a captive power plant and other supporting units. EPCL is strategically positioned to feed the growing demand of plastics in Africa. With state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, the complex consists of a gas feed cracker unit and two main downstream plants. The total production is over 550 KTA of world-class olefins and polyolefins. Eleme Petrochemicals is poised to be become one of the leading suppliers of polyolefins on the African continent. The company strives to ensure total customer satisfaction and consistently produce high quality products. The company focuses on providing world-class products at competitive prices and customised grades to suit the customer's specific requirements. The Eleme Complex is designed to produce 240,000 metric tons per year of polyethylene, and 95,000 metric tons per year of polypropylene. To produce these resins, natural gas liquids are cracked in a M.W. Kellogg (USA) licensed olefins plant. The polyethylene plant is a Sclairtech process licensed by Nova Chemicals and the propylene plant is Spheripol process of Basell. Additionally 22,000 metric tons of Butene-1 can be produced in the complex. Butene-1 is used as co-monomer in the production of linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE). The first Turnaround Maintenance (TAM) was performed from 17 May 2006 until the end of September 2006. After the completion of all planned activities, the plants were operational on 15 September 2006. The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria re-commissioned the new privatised and revitalised EPCL on 12 October 2006. The plant is situated on 400 hectares of land and potential expansion capabilities are well catered to in the layout design. Indorama is planning to make this complex the petrochemical hub of Africa by bringing it up to its full design capacity, and then undertaking expansion plans.
