Purpose
The purpose of this experiment was to test the effectiveness of pesticides on different types of roaches. I predict that this experiment will prove the point that pesticides are effective most of the time and are necessary in keeping things sanitary.
Hypothesis
If a certain pesticide is applied in a roach infested area, then the pesticides will prove effective. If pesticides are used regularly they will prove to be effective in preventing and controlling roach infestation. To test the effectiveness of pesticides you should observe the amount of time that it takes for the insect to die.
Materials and Procedure First of all a model house was built in order to have a controlled environment for the insects. The insects that were used in this experiment were roaches. The house was made out of some paneling. When it was completed a scrap piece of carpet was placed in the floor and the walls were painted. The roof of the house was made so it lifted up and the roaches could be observed. After the roaches were captured they were placed in the house and were sprayed with chemicals such as PT270, Demon, Victor Bait, and max force. The roaches were observed carefully everyday. The roaches were then left in the house for display.
Results
The results of this experiment were very simple, but very true. Of course, all of the roaches died eventually, but some died quicker than others. Dealing with contact kill, which is spraying pesticides such as PT270 directly on the bug, the roaches died within 5-12 seconds after contact. This method proved very effective and quick. On the other hand, you have residual control, which is spraying pesticides such as Demon on the baseboards and around the house. It generally took 3-6 days for the pesticide to make a difference. Although residual control took longer, it still proved effective.
Conclusions
After seeing the results of this experiment, it is obvious that both methods of pest control are effective. Although, if you want a fast plan of action it pest control you should probably use contact kill. If you just need a general pest control treatment you should probably go with the residual form of pest control.
