MATERIAL REQUIRED:

1. Some of the circular objects - such as bangles, rings, wheels of different
size.
2. A piece of thread.

Procedure:

1. With the help of a tread measure both circumference and diameter of a
circular object and notedown the readings in the following obserbation
table.
2. After taking 5 to 6 readings of different circular objects calculate the
value of ? by using the following formula.

? = (Circumference of a circle ÷ Diameter of the circle)

William Jones gave the symbol ? (pie) to denote the above ratio.

S. No. Circumference (C) Diameter (D) ?= C/D Remarks

We observe that the value is approximately 3.14 or 22/7. there is little possibility that you cannot get the accurate value of the pie due to instrumental and human errors.

USE: It can be used as a teaching aid for class VII

Note: An Amazing approximate value of ? is also given by
( v3 + v2 ) = 1.73 + 1.41 = 3.14.
