5.Calculate the numerical aperture and acceptance angle of a fibre with a core index of 1.54 and cladding index of 1.50 when the fibres is inside water of refractive index 1.33.

11.(a)What is piezoelectric effect?With a neat circuit diagram,explain the use of piezoelectric effect in the production of ultrasonics.
(b)Explain how ultrasonic waves are useful in the following applications.
(ii)Detection of flaws in metals
(iii)Determination of velocity of blood flow.
12.(a)Explain the nodes of vibration of CO2 molecule.Describe the construction and working of CO2 laser with necessary diagrams.
(b)For atomic transitions,derive Einstein relations and hence deduce the expressions for the ratio of spontaneous emission rat to stimulated emission rate.
13.(a)What are the different types of fibre optical sensors?Explain the working of any two sensors.

(b)What are Miller indices?Derive an expression for the interplanar spacing for(h k l) planes of a cubic structure.
