1. (a) Compare the FFT analyzer with the super heterodyne spectrum analyzer. (b) Explain the F M method of magnetic tape recording and explain its advantages and disadvantages.
2. (a) Explain how a Kelvins double bridge can accurately measure low resistances. Also derive the condition for balance. (b) In the Kelvins Bridge shown in gure 5b the ratio of R to R is 2000, R is 10 and R = 0.2 R . Calculate the value of R.
3. (a) What are the international standards of mass and length? (b) Distinguish between a primary and secondary standard. (c) Write short notes on the concept of current standards?
4. A set of independent measurements were made to determine the weight of a lead shot. 6. (a) With a neat sketch explain the operation of a cavity wave meter. (b) Explain gating errors and time base errors.
7. (a) Describe the electrostatic focusing system of a CRT. (b) What is the minimum distance L, that will allow full de ection of 4 cm at the oscilloscope screen with a de ection factor of 100 V/cm and with an accelerating potential of 2000 V ? 8. (a) AC basic DArsonal movement with a full scale detection of 50A and internal resistance of 500 is used as a voltmeter. Determine the value of the multiplier resistance needed to measure the voltage range of 0-10V? (b) Explain the performance characteristics of DVMs?
