3. Write brief on the following :
a) Virtual machine.
b) Examples of IPC systems.
c) Operating system structure.

4. a) Explain the threading issues in multi-threaded models.
4. b) Explain the scheduling criteria with suitable examples. (OR)
5. a) Explain with a suitable example the 'classical problem of synchronization' and how it can be dealt with +.
5. b) Write a brief on Process, Thread, Atomic transaction.

UNIT - III [1 x 14 = 14M]

6. a) Define deadlock and explain the characteristics of deadlock.
6. b) Explain the structure of the page table.
6. c) Write a brief on Demand paging. (OR)
7. a) Explain the concept of segmentation and give a proper representation of segmentation hardware.
7. b) Explain optimal page replacement and LRU page replacement algorithm with suitable example.

UNIT - IV [1 x 14 = 14M]

8. a) Define file and explain the file attributes, operations on files, structure of file and types of files.
8. b) Write a brief on Application I/O interface and Kernel I/O interface. (OR)
9. Explain different disk scheduling algorithms with suitable example for each distinguishing the differences in scheduling.
