Linear ICs and Applications

Answer ONE question from each Unit


1. Briefly explain following [12 x 1 = 12M]
a) List the characteristics of an ideal op amp.
b) What is the input impedance of a non inverting op amp?
c) Define CMRR.
d) List different types of comparators.
e) What is a window detector?
f) How would you recognize that positive feedback is being used in an op amp circuit?
g) What is the purpose of clipper?
h) List various A/D conversion techniques.
i) What is the fastest ADC why?
j) Define duty cycle.
k) List some applications of timer in mono stable mode.
l) Define pass band and stop band of a filter.

UNIT - I [1 x 12 = 12M]

2. a) Explain briefly about pole zero compensation.
2. b) A square wave of peak to peak amplitude of 500 m V has to be amplified to a peak to peak amplitude of 3 V, with a rise time of 4 μsec or less. Can a 741 be used? (OR)
3. a) Draw and explain the operation of voltage to current and current to voltage converters.
3. b) Explain the operation of practical integrator circuit.

UNIT - II [1 x 12 = 12M]

4. a) Draw and explain the Wein bridge oscillator with necessary expressions.
4. b) Design a square wave oscillator for f = 1 K Hz. The op amp is a 741 with supply voltages +15 V or -15 V. (OR)
5. a) Explain any two applications of schmih trigger.
5. b) A schmih trigger with the upper threshold level VUT = 0V and hysteresis width VH = 0.2 V converts a 1 K Hz sine wave of amplitude 4 Vpp into a square wave. Calculate the time duration of the negative and positive portion of the output waveform.

UNIT - III [1 x 12 = 12M]

6. Explain about shunt clippers. (OR)
7. a) Explain the counter type A/D converter.
7. b) How many levels are possible in a two bit DAC? What is the resolution if the output range is 0 to 3 V?

UNIT - IV [1 x 12 = 12M]

8. a) Briefly discuss any three PLL applications.
8. b) Calculate output frequency f0, lock range ΔfL of a 565 PLL. If RT = 10 K Ohms, CT = 0.01 μF and C = 10 μF (OR)
9. Explain briefly about band reject filters.
