a) What is the difference between a filter and a monochromator?
b) State Beer Lambert's law.
c) Mention any two detection used in UV measurement.

e) What are the sources of radiation in Mid Infrared region?
f) Write the difference between dispersive and non dispersive spectrometers.
g) What are the sweeping modes in continuous wave NMR spectrometers?
h) What is the principle of ESR?
i) What is Duane Hunt equation?
j) Write down the units of radio activity.
k) What are the applications of radio nuclides?
l) Which type of compounds can be analyzed using X – ray diffractometer?

UNIT - I [1 x 12 = 12M]

2. a) Explain double beam UV spectrometer.
2. b) Calculate the critical angle between a prism with a refractive index of 1.75 and a sample with a refractive index of 1.22. Estimate the angle of incident radiation that should be used to obtain an AT spectrum of the sample. (OR)
3. a) State and explain Beer Lambert's law. What are its limitations?
3. b) Briefly explain any two detectors used in UV spectrophotometry.

4. Explain the principle and working of FTIR spectrophotometer with necessary diagrams. (OR)
5. Explain the different types of flame photometer.

6. a) Explain ESR spectrometer.
6. b) Explain broad band NMR spectrometer. (OR)
7. Explain with a neat sketch the construction and principle of a Time of flight mass spectrometer.

UNIT - IV [1 x 12 = 12M]

8. a) Explain the principle and working of proportional center and ionization chamber.
8. b) Discuss the applications of X Ray spectrometry. (OR)
9. a) Write about solid state detectors.
9. b) Write about fluorescence spectroscopy.
