a) Define power pack.
b) Compare the hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
c) Draw the symbol of the 5/2 direction control valve–pilot operated and spring return.
d) What is a positive displacement pump? In what ways does it differ from a centrifugal pump?
e) Why the volumetric efficiency of a positive displacement must be rated with pressure?
f) Distinguish between tandem and telescopic cylinders.
g) What is the use of Regenerative circuit?
h) What is an FRL unit and mention its use?
i) Distinguish between PLC and computer.
j) What is a Latch circuit?
k) What is the difference between sensor and transducer?
l) Explain the principle of Hall Effect.

2. a) Discuss the properties of hydraulic fluids.
2. b) Explain the construction and working of a gear pump. (OR)
3. a) With neat sketch explain the working principle of pressure relief valve.
3. b) Name and explain the various types of filters used in the pneumatic system.

4. Distinguish meter in, meter out and bleed off circuits. Explain their selection criteria. (OR)
5. Describe different types of direction control valves with neat sketches.

UNIT - III [1 x 12 = 12M]

6. Explain the performance characteristics of transducers with suitable examples. (OR)
7. Explain the fallowing sensors with neat sketches.
a) Tactile sensor
b) Potentiometer sensor
c) Pyroelectric sensor

UNIT - IV [1 x 12 = 12M]

8. With a neat sketch explain the architecture of 'PLC'. (OR)
9. a) Explain the basics of ladder programming used in PLC's.
9. b) Draw the ladder diagram for NOR gate & NAND gate.
