a) Define a digital image.
b) Write the difference between color image and gray scale image.
c) How sampling and quantization will effect the quality of the image?
d) Define adjacency and connectivity.
e) Explain bit plane slicing.
f) Define histogram equalization and histogram matching.
g) What is the application of image sharpening?
h) Define periodic noise.
i) Explain contra – harmonic filter.
j) Mention the redundancies present in the digital image.
k) Draw the Roberts cross gradient operators.
l) What are the boundary descriptors and regional descriptors?

UNIT - I [1 x 12 = 12M]

2. a) Explain clearly the basic steps involved in image processing with a neat sketch.
2. b) Write a short note on applications of digital image processing. (OR)
3. a) Write a detailed note on color models.
3. b) Explain image formation model.

UNIT - II [1 x 12 = 12M]

4. a) Differentiate weighted filter and box filter? Explain how the point processing techniques and piecewise linear transformations are helpful in image enhancement.
4. b) Write a short note on histogram equalization. (OR)
5. a) When a filter is said to be isotropic and give the basic steps for image enhancement in the frequency domain.
5. b) How unsharp masking and high boost filtering are helpful in image enhancement?
5. c) Define 2D discrete Fourier transform (2D DFT) and prove any two properties of 2D DFT.

UNIT - III [1 x 12 = 12M]

6. a) Explain clearly the image degradation and restoration process along with various noises affecting the quality of the image and their sources.
6. b) Write a short note on inverse filtering. (OR)
7. With a neat sketch explain the image compression model and write a short note on the redundancies present in digital images.

UNIT - IV [1 x 12 = 12M]

8. a) Write a detailed note on edge based segmentation and region based segmentation.
8. b) Write a short note on line detection. (OR)
9. a) Write a detailed note on boundary descriptions and regional descriptors.
