The headmaster of the government primary school at Sanarapet here, K Somu, and lecturer in Tamil in the Sinnatha Government Girls Higher Secondary School (Muthialpet), S Manivelan, have been selected for the national awards for best teachers from Puducherry.
Each of them would receive a cash award of Rs 25,000, a silver medal and a certificate from President Pratibha Patil at the Teachers Day celebrations in New Delhi tomorrow, according to Education Minister M O H F Shahjahan.
The awards relate to the academic year 2005-06, he said at a press conference yesterday.
The Education Minister said that Teachers Day celebrations in Puducherry tomorrow would be marked by presentation of awards instituted by the Directorate of Education at a function here. Each of the 21 teachers of different categories selected for awards would be presented a cash of Rs 5,000, a gold coin weighing eight grams and a certificate.
An official source said Lt Governor Mukut Mithi would hand over the awards to the 21 teachers at the celebrations here. The recipients include four women teachers, a language teacher, a technical teacher and a French teacher. (Agencies)
