RAIL-BUDGET

During the 2008-09 budget first the Rail budget is announced by Railway Minister Sri Lalu Prasad Yadav,which took a great role in our economic structure. The main highlights are as follows:

1AC, 2AC, 3AC fares slashed
Coming soon! TV, Internet services in trains
10 new Garib Raths, 53 new trains
50% concession for AIDS patients travelling in trains
Free season tickets for girl students till graduation
5% cut in petrol, diesel freight
Ticket reservation, confirmation via mobiles likely
Lifts and escalators at 50 stations
High-level platforms in 135 stations
Pandemonium in Lok Sabha over train allocation
New Delhi-Jammu Tawi train now daily
Salsa-Amritsar Garib Rath tri-weekly

Proposal to spend Rs 17.3 bn on new lines
