A free and opensource operating system which is customized for the need of Indians.

BOSS Linux.. India’s answer to the Linux community.
Linux is an open source operating system which is free to use in many cases. It is secure and superior to Windows operating system (Except user friendly features. But it is set to change). Though Indians are tech savvy and contributing much to the computer technology, the participation of Indians in case of using Linux is very small and limited. For a huge country like us, if we are going to use Windows OS then it is going to be very huge money for the government. Many of the government offices use computer only for word processing, some other office works and internet browsing. Open Office and Linux is sufficient for them. For this C-DAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing) has developed BOSS (Bharat Operating System Solutions) the Indian version of Linux!
BOSS is derived from the Debian to increase the usage of Open source software in India. Since it is developed in India, The importance has been given to local languages also. So you can install BOSS in any Indian language. BOSS contains Indian version of Open Office. It has support for almost all Indian languages. This is sufficient for a typical office work.
BOSS Linux is not heavy. It is sleek in look and colour. It is fast also. You will love to work with it. The support for the Linux is also good. You can even participate in the development and help in improving our own Linux! There are some variants of BOSS available for different use like EDUBOSS for educational purpose. It is having an active forum where you can sort out your problem or help others to solve their problems. Just have a try.
Getting boss Linux is very simple. You can either download it or send a request mail mentioning your address. They will send you the installable BOSS Linux directly to your home. Information regarding how to get the CD free of cost is given in the webpage http://bosslinux.in/get-boss-cd/ For Chennai people it is very easy to get the CD just step into
