“India Post “ introduces “packing facility” for parcels
This is how Govt. organisations should compete with others! Read this article to know about India Post that introduces 'Packing facility' for parcels to their customers.
The Department of Posts, Government of India has made elaborate arrangements to extend Packing Services for it’s national / inland and international Parcel Service, for the convenience of customers.
To cope up with the competitions from Private Courier / Parcel Service providers, Department of Posts has decided to provide packing services with parcel services for national / inland and international parcels.
TARIFF: FOR NATIONAL / INLAND PARCELS:
*Articles up to 500 gm.s – Rs. 40/- and * Articles up to 35 Kg.s – Rs.165/-.
This amount is inclusive of Carton boxes for packing, cloth for packing, Elastic and Service charges.
Customers of Express and Speed Parcel Services can avail this packing facility.
For sending articles from 1 Kg. to 5 Kg.s as allowed by Customs authorities, which may include Birthday Gifts, Books etc. to countries like U.S.A. and U.K., carton boxes at designated rates are distributed by India Post.
These boxes are named as Flat Rate Boxes. For sending parcels, the tariff up to 1 Kg. is Rs.1000/- and above 1 Kg. to 5 Kg.s is Rs.2500/- for international destinations.
If a customer avails flat rate box system, there are no separate packing charges levied for those international parcels.
For example, if a customer wishes to send a 5 Kg. parcel to his friend at U.S.A., it is enough that he pays Rs.2500/- which is inclusive of Parcel & packing charges.
This facility is recently introduced in Chennai.
At present, all the international parcels that are being sent out of our country are scanned by Customs authorities. However, there are no such mechanisms to scan the national level / inland parcels, so far.
Hence, there is every possibility that inland parcel services may be used for trafficking unlawful materials. Therefore, it is opined that the Post Offices offering the inland parcel services should be equipped with proper scan facilities also.
