Dial-Up connections in Hardware

Dial-Up Connection :-
Dial up connection is nothing but a type of connection which is used to connect the computer with internet. There are several types of connections available to access the internet, e.g. Dial-up, wi-fi, broadband etc.
Dial up connection uses a phone line. You can even get recharge vouchers available in market and can connect your computer to internet via simple phone line. You will be charged per minute phone call charge for that.
You can even connect your mobile phone to the computer and can use it as a modem. It uses a dial-up connection. For that you have to have suitable mobile and bluetooth connectivity in your computer.
Service providers take a normal charge for internet connection. Airtel is good in this segment.
Generally dial-up connections are slower then other connection. And line dropping is a major headache.

Dial Up connection is used to connect your system to Remote System or ISP server through a normal Modem. Also, you require a active telephone line to establish the connection. The procedure for setting up dial up connection is very easy. First Configure your Modem and connect the phone line to it. Now go to the Network Option in Control panel and create a Dial Up connection. While setup you have to mention the remote number you want to dial, user name & password for authentication and your Modem as the carrier. Once the connection link/icon is created, run it and dial the remote system. Once you are authenticated you can use the remote system or browse Internet.
So choose a connection type suitable to your need.

Advantages of Dial-Up Connection :-

1. It is cost effective which means that it requires less cost
2. This does not require any special equipment other than a telephone line.

Disadvantages of Dial-Up Connection :-
1. Low speed which takes longer time to load web pages onto your browser.
2. ISP's charge by a minute for dial-up connections. The cost per minute is comparable to that of a local phone call.
3. When connected to Internet, the same phone line cannot used for making or receiving phone calls.

Hardware requirement for dial-Up Connections :-
The hardware requirements for setting up a dial-up connection depend on the configuration. Following are few requirements :-

1.One or more network adapters to connect to LAN
2. One or more modems which are compatible and an available COM port
3. ISDN and DSL Adapters (depends on whether we are using ISDN line or not)
4. Telephone line (analog) as dial-up connections transfer data over an analogue line
5. Wireless adapter.
