Anuradha Ramanan: The Pride of Tamilnadu

Anuradha Ramanan (29th June, 1947 - 16th May 2010) was one of the greatest literary personages of Tamilnadu. She had a fondness of literature right from her childhood, and her grandfather R. Balasubramanyam had encouraged her right through. A student of Humanities, Anuradha Ramanan published her first article, "Kanavu Malrkal Kaukumpoothu", in the Mangai, 1977.

In her literary career, Anuradha Ramanan has written nearly 1000 short stories and 800 novels. This is very much surprising. She had also generously contributed in lots of Tamil magazines. Lots of Anuradha Ramanan's works have been made cinemas. Some of them are:

1. Sirai and Kootupuzhukal - dierected by R. C. Shakti.
2. Oru Malarin Payanam - directed by Mukta Srinivasan.
3. Oru Veedu Iru Vasal - directed by K. Balachandar

A good number of TV serials have also been based on Anuradha Ramanan's works.

Anuradha Ramanan won many awards. Some of them are:

1. Rajiv Gandhi Award
2. The Queen of Novels award
3. Awards for Best Novelist,
4. Gold Medal from Idhyam Pesukirathu and so on.
