Scope of Electronic and Communications Engineering (ECE)

Description about the best stream in engineering Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) with respect to job and future point of view.

We are now at the start of another academic year, some of you might have completed your intermediate from MPC background and are about to enter into graduation as Engineers. For such students I would like to advice few things. They are many groups available in Engineering like CSE, ECE, EEE, IT, Civil etc of which ECE (Electronics and Communication Engineering) has a bright future with respect to many things. This doesn't mean that other streams do not have bright future, but among all the groups available at Engineering, ECE is always one step ahead of all the other branches.

Why Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE)?

Well if we start discussing about the importance of ECE it goes on like an Everest. The first and foremost thing is that it is because the synchronization of Electronics on par with Communication field, no other group like EIE or EEE or any other group has this synchronization. Usually in the first year of your B.Tech you will be learning things that you have already learn at your +2 stage like Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Drawing, English etc. The actual core subjects come from second year, usually you will be first introduced with subjects related to Electronics field like circuit designing and analyzing etc. Later on subjects related to Communication field will be introduced. The word Communication means transfer of information from the source to the destination over a communication channel. Subjects related to communication field are Analog Communication, Digital Communication, Satellite Communication, Wireless Communication & Networking, and Cellular Mobile Communication etc. These subjects play a vital role in deciding the carrier of the subjects. The above represented scenario is with respect to JNTU-H and almost all the universities follow more or less the same scenario. Since the goods in the field of Communication are more related to Electronics the group Electronics and Communication Engineering has higher demand than any other department.

Job Prospects in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE):

They are wide range of job opportunities for ECE students throughout the world. In fact in many public sector jobs in India, the students from ECE are highly recruited than any other group. The other advantage of this group is that students can easily drift from hardware field to software field if the familiar with some computer languages but the converse is not true. In the field of communication side, mainly in companies like BSNL, Nokia, and Motorola etc mainly students from ECE background are hired. Finally the famous ISRO recruits students only from ECE and Mechanical.

So, I request the students to be wise in choosing their stream. One need to look into considerations about the market after four years and not based on the present market as you will be finishing graduation after four years. ECE has nothing like recession, like software side as any company requires the students for a long run process. So in my opinion it is best to choose ECE as your stream at B.Tech in order to have bright future both with respect to Job and with respect to Masters.

Dear Kartik,
With reference to your date of post that is 2010,I must tell you that the highest number of jobless engg. students belong to ECE stream. As of 2010 I have done market research in Delhi electronics industrial area. First of all there was not any job opportunity second if there is any job vacancy then there was a flood of student from this stream.
The main reason may be Private collage which doesn't provide proper meaning of the stream. Second thing is Government policies. Rest of the things all people can fin on my blog.

I am a ECE engineer passed out in 2012. I suggest not to take ece specially in INDIA. If you are not from IITS. you will be forced to switch your carrier into other things. As per me 99% of ece engineers are serving in call centers and and leaving a pathetic life. IT sounds worst, But its hard and naked reality.

Kindly don't spoil your your life by taking a 4 year burning bath of ECE.

May I know which stream is good for M.Tech. in between in digital communication system or avionics?

Well, this discussion needs more hard facts to be accepted and analysed. One thing that I would like to agree with Mr. Karthik is that of course there cannot be any recession in the field of electronics unless and until entire world stops using electronic gadgets in their daily life starting from a simple fit-bit watch to the giant aircraft or ships or the lifeline of today's communication media- mobiles.

Now, Mr. Prasan, I would like to mention here that yes those electronic engineers have landed up in BPOs or are still jobless because they have failed to keep themselves updated with the latest developments in the technologies being used by the latest gadgets. The private institutions or government aided institutions who keep their students updated with the latest trends of the electronic market are still successfully finding their students getting placed in good companies like Reliance, BSNL, STM, Ericsson, ISRO, Cognizant, Transwitch, LMI India Ltd., HITACHI, HP, HCL, IBM,Samsung, LG etc.

Not only this, those who qualify GATE and go for higher studies are finding very good opportunities in R&D sections of different companies, both in private as well as in public sector.

So, the only thing that is required is exploring the right place to pursue the professional course in this evergreen branch of engineering.
My Best Wishes to all aspirants!!!

Sir, I also did 1 yr in B.Tech in the ECE Department. Later I did an Air hostess training course but did not get any job. Now I am regretting because I discontinued B.Tech Engineering. Now I realize that continuing my B Tech studies would be better for me. Will completion of ECE help me in getting a job? Kindly guide me.
