Iphone 4 vs. iphone 3gs

Iphone 4 is the recent hit by Apple. Last year, it was the Apple 3GS which had created waves in the technology market.

Here, I am comparing the features of apple iphone 4 and apple 3gs

Comparison of processor iphone 4 and iphone 3gs

Iphone 4 comes with a new Apple A4 processor. This processor is also in use in the new Apple product, Ipad.

The new processor chip results in faster performance in Iphone 4 compared to 3GS.
Also the battery life is improved in iphone 4 due to this chip.

The one year old iphone 3GS uses a 600 MHz Cortex- A8 architecture processor. It was fast, but now the iphone 4 is faster!!

Comparison of display of iphone 4 and 3gs

Iphone 4 has brought a new exciting feature, i.e. the retina display.
Iphone 4 has a 3.5 inch IPS 960 X 640 display. This is much better than the display of iphone 3GS.

Now, since iphone 4 has been launched, 3GS display looks outdated, trust me!!
Iphone 3GS has a 3.5 inch 480 X 320 display with no IPS.

The iphone 4 has the retina display technology. This is named so because, the display of Iphone 4 has more pixels than the human eye can distinguish.

There is no OLED in iphone 4, but Apple claims that the IPS technology is much better than the OLED. Also the IPS technology is used in Ipad.

Compare the camera of iphone 4 and 3GS

Here comes the best feature of iphone 4. It has both primary and secondary camera. This was missing in the 3GS and previous models. Earlier models were 3G enabled, but had no secondary camera. So no video chatting.

The drawback has been rectified by Apple. The Iphone 4 comes with a 5 megapixel AF camera and that too with flash. WOW!!!! iphone with flash

On the other hand, 3GS had a 3 megapixel camera with no flash. So a great improvement in the primary camera of iphone.

There is more improvement in the camera of iphone 4. There is a secondary camera. This enables video chatting. The secondary camera of iphone 4 is a basic one, it's a VGA camera.

Iphone 3GS has no secondary camera. A 3G phone with no secondary camera was criticized by many consumers.

Comparison of video recording of iphone 4 with 3GS

Iphone 3GS had no good features on video recording. The previous model had no video recording!!(Still many fools bought the primitive iphones, god knows WHY!!)

The 3GS has the feature to support video recording. It was VGA, 30 fps. Spending money for just VGA forma video was ridiculous. The iphone 4 version has brought the best in video recording.

Iphone 4 has HD video recording feature.

Iphone clearly wins in the field of video recording.

Compare size and weight of iphone 4 and 3GS

Iphone 4 is 24 percent thinner than its predecessor 3GS. Iphone 4 is slightly wider by 3.5mm.

Also new features mean more weight. It's heavier by just 2g.

Wireless and data of iphones

There are not many changes in the wireless and data transfer technology of iphone 4.

It adds the same 802.11 n to the mix alongside 802.11 b/g and Bluetooth. It's a small change in the 4 version compared to 3GS.

No changes in the HSPDA, 3G and EDGE technologies of iphone 4.

Compare the orientation sensing devices of iphone 4 with 3Gs

The three devices in iphone are unchanged. The accelerometer, aGPS, compass and WIFI location specs are unchanged in version 4.

A new feature id the three axis gyro that can add increased six point movement accuracy into apps and games. This brings faster response to motion based games. apple iphone game display

Compare the power and battery of iphone 4 with 3GS

Apple claims that the iphone 4 has a 40 percent more efficiency compared to 3GS. It has 7 hours talk time against the 5 hours in the 3GS.

But the standby time is the same in both iphone 4 and 3GS. How is that? Looks confusing!!!

Also the video playback remains the same in this new iphone.

Storage of iphone 4 vs. iphone 3GS

The iphone is available in 16 GB and 32 GB. Unfortunately, no 64 GB for iphone 4.

Iphone 3GS has more variety, from 8 to 64 GB.

External buttons of iphone 4 vs. 3GS

No major changes in the external buttons of iphone 4. There is extra mica on the iphone 4 for better call quality. There are little changes in the design of the volume buttons.

MY verdict

To wind up, I feel that the Iphone 4 is a great improved Iphone ever introduced. If you want to but one iphone, go for iphone 4.
