Here the names and little details of the Seven Wonders Of the World.



 

The official seven wonders of the world announced at the Declaration Ceremony on 07.07.07. These seven wonders were elected by 100 million peoples vote to represent global heritage :
1. The Pyramid of Chichen Itza
Place: Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico
Built in: Before 800 A.D.
Built by: Pre-Columbian Mayas
Purpose: Served as a temple to the god Kulkulkan, the Yucatec Maya Feathered Serpent Diety
2. Christ Redeemer
Place: Corcovado mountains overlooking Rio de Janerio
Built in: Inauguration on 12th October, 1931
Built by: Designer Brazilian Heiter da Silva and creator French Sculptor Paul Landowski
Purpose: It is the symbol of the city i.e. to receive visitors with open arms
3. Colosseum or Flavian Amphitheatre
Place: Marshy land between the Esquiline and Caelian Hills, Rome, Italy
Built in: Between 70-82 A.D.
Built by: Started by Vespasian, inaugurated by Titus in 80 A.D. and completed by Domitian.
Purpose: Its was used for gladiatorial contest like games, animal hunts, executions, battles.
4. Taj Mahal
Place: Agra, India
Built in: 1631-48
Built by: The fifth Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan.
Purpose: In the memory of his favourite wife Mumtaz Mahal as a symbol of love.
5. Great Wall of China
Place: China
Built in: Around 2000 years ago during the Qin( Ch'in) dynasty (221 B.C. – 206 B.C.).
Built by: The emperor Qin Shi Huangdi
Purpose: To keep away invaders like the mughals
6. Petra
Place: on the edge of Arabian desert, Jordan
Built in: 9 B.C. – 40B.C.
Built by: King Aretas IV
Purpose: Capital of the Nabataean empire
7. Machu Picchu
Place: On the mountains known as Machu Picchu halfway up the Andes Plateau, Peru.
Built in: 1460 – 1470
Built by: The Incan emperor Pachacutec.
Purpose: It was a settlement during that period for the Incans.
