This explains about the interview pattern and criteria about Royal bank of scotland IT interview.


I would like to share with you my interview experience with one of the most reputed organization in banking sector i.e. Royal bank of Scotland (RBS).

To start off it was in January end my friend referred my resume in RBS and it was shortlisted on the same day only which was a surprise to me as I have previously also applied for the same but it wasn't selected prior this.

The same day I got a call from RBS that my 1st round of interview (Telephonic) is scheduled for tomorrow. I was really tensed that how to prepare for such a big organization technical interview in less than a day. But I did not loose confidence and prepared well for the interview in that available time frame.

Next day my 1st round of interview lasted for almost an hour and above in that they asked me almost everything about my domain i.e. testing with everything related to manual testing, I think that there was nothing left to ask about that more in manual testing. I was in dilemma that whether I would be selected in this round but I was confident also that I have answered everything correctly so there is no point rejecting me.

After two days I got a call from RBS that I have cleared my 1st round now I have to give my 2nd round which was written test to be taken by a third party i.e. International Knowledge management (IKM). It had 36 questions to answer in 90minutes though the time frame was more but the questions definitely required high intellectual capability it was not a easy game to solve. The pattern of the exam is as follows :

1) All 36 questions were objective.
2) Every question consisted of minimum 3 and maximum of 5 options.
3) Each question can have maximum of 3 correct answers.
4) Each correct answer has a different percentage of marks. {Example : If a question has 1 mark if we answer that correctly and it has 2 correct answer then it can be possible that one option can be given .8% and another option can be given .2%}
5) There was negative marking for not selecting the correct option.
6) And there was also negative marking for selecting wrong option.
7) There was negative marking for not answering the question.

So it was not a easy test to crack and the questions were also not so simple that you can answer them easily. So I invested adequate time and intellect to solve those questions.

The result of my second round was directly mailed to RBS people and I was not aware of the results, 1 day after I got a call from RBS that I have cleared my 2nd round also and I have to give my 3rd round tomorrow which would be a video conference round with the higher management. In this round it was also a round of approx. 1hr or more in this round there was a mix and match of both HR and technical questions. There were questions regarding my last project and also about banking domain. I cleared this round also.

Now just one round was left to crack which was HR and Negotiations round, I got a call from RBS HR after a day when I cleared my 3rd round and they asked me certain questions like :

1) What do you know about RBS as a company ?
2) How do you feel if selected being part of RBS?
3) Who is the CEO of the company?
4) Best thing about RBS?
5) How is it better from your previous organization?
6) Why do you want to join RBS?
7) What is your expected salary?

And few other HR related questions. After this I got a final call from RBS HR that I have been selected and need to join RBS Gurgaon. To which I became very happy that all efforts of my hard work has given me sweet result because being part of RBS is not a small thing to achieve.

So would like to advice viewers that to be a part of RBS is not a small thing please prepare well before applying, hope this would have cleared a little doubts that you would have.
