The National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD) is a premier centre of excellence in rural development. It builds capacities of the rural development functionaries, elected representatives and academicians, through three inter-related activities of training, research and consultancy. Its faculty comprises experienced academicians and practitioners. The Institute has functional networks with national and international organisations, excellent training and teaching infrastructure with air-conditioned conference halls, video conferencing facilities, 150 hostel rooms, a health center and an indoor sports complex with gymnasium, swimming pool and Yoga Centre. The NIRD is launching a fully residential One Year ‘Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Rural Development Management (PGDRDM)’ from the academic year 2008, with an aim to create a committed cadre of Rural Development professionals in the country. While laying the theoretical foundations of rural development, the programme seeks to impart management techniques that will enhance the understanding of the theory and practice of rural development. Selection of candidates will be made through a process of Entrance Test, Group Discussion and Interview. TOTAL NO.OF SEATS: 60
PROGRAMME DURATION: July, 2008 to June, 2009
COURSE FEE: Rs. 1.25 lakh. The Board and Lodging expenses will be approximately Rs.75, 000/-
ELIGIBILITY:
Graduation in any discipline from a recognised University. Students who are in the final year and expect to complete all the requirements of graduation before 15th June, 2008 may also apply. Some seats are reserved for the in-service candidates with at least two years of work experience in rural development and allied sectors. In- service candidates are required to apply through their employers. They may however, send an advance application. The in-service candidates will be selected by a Selection Committee through a process of group discussion and interview. They will not be required to appear for the entrance test. The Programme Prospectus provides further details of the Diploma programme and is available on the website www.nird.org.in . The students selected from the North-eastern region will get financial support from the North Eastern Council, subject to a maximum of two students from each of the eight states of the North East. Merit and need based scholarships may be made available to deserving candidates. Bank loans also will be facilitated by the NIRD for needy students.
RESERVATION:
Reservations for the SC, ST and differently abled persons will be made as per Government of India’s policies. ENTRANCE TEST:
The Entrance Test will be conducted on April 27, 2008 at the following centres: Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Bangaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dibrugarh, Gangtok, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Itanagar, Jaipur, Jammu, Kolkata, Kohima, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong and Thiruvananthapuram. The NIRD reserves the right to cancel any of the centres if there are in-sufficient number of candidates and assign any other centre to the applicants.
HOW TO APPLY:
The prospectus cum application form can be obtained from the Professor & Head, Centre for Post Graduate Studies (CPGS) free of cost. Request for applications by post should reach along with self addressed envelope of size 12”x10” by 14.3.2008.
Application forms will also be given at NIRD office at Rajendranagar, Hyderabad and NIRD-NERC office at Khanapara, Guwahati during working hours (9.00 AM to 5.30 PM) upto 20.03.2008. It can also be downloaded from the NIRD website www.nird.org.in . The filled in application form should be submitted along with the application fee of Rs.1000/- (Rs.500/- for SC/ST and differently abled persons) through an ‘Account Payee’ Demand Draft drawn in favour of NIRD, Hyderabad, to the Professor & Head, Centre for Post Graduate Studies (CPGS), National Institute of Rural Development, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad-500 030 (A.P) so as to reach on or before 5.00 PM on 24th March, 2008.
NIRD reserves the right to make changes to the Diploma programme design / content and the process of selection, depending upon the exigencies, without assigning any reasons whatsoever.
