Maa Kalyaneshwari Temple


Maithon in Jharkhand is a place where Goddess Kali is said to have set her foot on and a grand temple stands here.

Maithon is a famous place because of its dam on the Damodar river and the valley with its beautiful locale due to the green hillocks.

Amidst the hilly terrain is situated a temple devoted to Goddess Kali which is said to have been built by the erstwhile rulers about more than a century back though it has been renovated and several additions to the main temple have been made.

Legend has it that a bangle seller was passing by the jungle when he saw a beautiful girl sitting on the rocks and asked him for bangles.When he asked for money he was directed to go and ask for it to the king of the area.The king too had a dream in which mother Kali asked her to pay the bangle seller.On knowing the fact the king requested the Goddess to once appear before him.Goddess Kali is said to have raised her hands from inside the river and shown the bangle filled arms.

The king then built a temple around the rock on which the girl sat and scores of people throng the temple everyday seeking the blessings of the Goddess.

People should visit the temple for its serene and beautiful location and for seeing the footprints of the Goddess which is said to be imprinted in one of the temple premises by the stream.

Other ceremonies like marriage,thread ceremony,mundan etc too are solemnised here added with a feast for the poor in Dussehra.
