IGCSE: International General Certificate of Secondary Education

History of IGCSE board:

IGCSE, formed in 1988, is a worldwide recognized class 10 course, over 100 countries which is similar to the class 10 exams of CBSE, SSC or ICSE boards. It is a two year comprehensive program for class 9 & 10 and final exams are conducted in the months of May and November every year.

Well IGCSE offers a wide range of courses with quality education and the marks in IGCSE are based on eight point grading system starting from A+ to G with A+ being the highest. A student is expected to have at-least Grade C in all subjects and such students are eligible for higher education.

Subjects in IGCSE Board:

IGCSE Board mainly consists of five groups of subjects and they are as follows:

Group 1: Languages (First Language, Second Language, Third Language or Any Foreign Language, etc)
Group 2: Humanities and Social Sciences (English Literature, History, Geography, etc)
Group 3: Science (Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Physics, etc)
Group 4: Mathematics (Algebra, Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Trigonometry, Geometry, etc)
Group 5: Creative, Technical & Vocational (Business Studies, Accounting, Computer Studies, Dance, Singing, Music, etc)

There is no such pass or fail but in order to obtain the certificate the student must obtain a minimum of Grade C in the selected subject from each group.

Advantage of IGCSE Board: There is one major advantage of this board which is not available with any other board. Most of you might be aware of the prestigious International Certificate of Education which is awarded by the Cambridge University, in order to obtain the International Certificate of Education (ICE) student need to take two more additional subjects apart from the subjects taken to obtain IGCSE certificate. Those two subjects are one more additional subject from the language group and one more subject from any of the other groups. This means the total seven subjects need to be taken in order to obtain ICE will be, two subjects from the language group, one subject from the remaining four groups each and one more subject from any of the five groups.
