Quorum sensing

As we all know, Communication is the basic and most important thing for every living creature in the case of development. The development of mankind is mostly due to the reason of communication. With furtherance of civilization, the various means of communications have also improved tremendously and will be so in future. Communication is not only related to human species but also even for small, smaller and smallest creatures in the world. The best example can be given as bacteria which are the one of the smallest creatures in the universe, but they don't use any language for that. Instead the bacterial communication is carried out by different signaling molecules which are released time to time in the environment. Upon releasing the signaling molecules, bacteria are capable of measuring the exact number of molecules. Quorum sensing, a marvelous biological method to regulate expression of gene in the response to the fluctuation in the cell density of a given bacterial population and provides the key mechanism through bacteria communicate. The bacteria release a chemical signal molecule called auto inducer that increase in concentration as a function of cell density. They help bacteria to coordinate their behaviors and as the environmental conditions often change rapidly, bacteria need to respond very fast in order to survive. The responses such as adaption, nutrients availability, and defense against other microorganisms offer a competitive resistance and get rid of the potentially dangerous toxic compounds. other than bacteria certain other creatures also use quorum sensing in search of food and nest such as honey bee,ants etc. Life has existed in such a wonderful manner that it made a significant mechanism for the living creatures to exchange information with the nature as well as towards its own kind.
