My name is Hiraman Sharma
I am pursuing BSC.IT(DL)
I am certified in CCNA and CCNP(routing)
I was applying for the post of network engineer.
After a lot of job hunts, eventually I found one prospective job in Netmagic solutions pvt. Ltd.
After clearing the written technical test, I was called up for the technical verbal interview
It was in a conference hall, where I was told to sit and wait for the interviewer to come.
Finally after greetings, the interviewer started off with the interview.
Interviewer: (after taking CV) “Tell me about yourself”
I:
Interviewer: “What is OSPF ?”
I: It’s a link state protocol which also facilitate one to have an extensive network divided efficiently into areas
Interviewer: (giving an affirmative node) do you know all the states that are involved during the neighbor ship establishment phase between ospf running routers.
I: (reading my mind) ya. I said all.
Interviewer: (seems satisfied, kept on firing questions till I’am bold) “tell me all BGP attributes”
I: gave all right answers
Interviewer: (after scribbling a rough diagram on a paper) “how will you let the network 192.168.10.0 to use only the primary path and network 10.0.0.0 to choose only the secondary path; not vice versa. Also if the primary path fails, the network 192.168.10.0 should failover to the secondary path.
I :( easily accepted that question, but could able to explain the first requirement with “local preference”, not the other one. I told him that I would definitely answer the other one also, but will take more time. To my difficulties, he got ready to wait and give whatever time I need. Eventually I gave up. He explained me that I could have used AS PATH as the solution for the given scenario)
Interviewer: “Well, you need to work out on BGP”
I: (I gave a nod to it)
Interviewer: (started explaining me about the work and leaves pattern, working shifts, timings, load during work etc.)
I:(with that I understood that I have won this match)
Now it’s been around 2 months since I am serving Netmagic solutions pvt. Ltd as a network operation engineer
The moral I would conceive from my this interview experience is that no matter if you are able to give only 5 answers out of 10 questions, its noteworthy to give 5 answers correctly and confidently.
Though I was wrong in the major question that was put forward to me, I was able to get through the interview.
