13th All India Competitive Examination for Admissions to Master’s Degree Programmes In the Field of Agriculture, Veterinary and Allied Sciences for the Academic Session 2008-2009 and Award of J.R.F.
Applications are invited for the 13th All India Competitive Examination for admissions to 100% seats of Master’s Degree programme at IARI, IVRI, CIFE, NDRI, and 25% seats at all the State Agricultural Universities (CAU, BHU, AMU, Visa Bharti and Nagaland University), and AAUDU in the field of Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Agricultural Engineering, Home Science, Social Science, Dairy, Fisheries, Veterinary, Agriculture Business Management and Allied Sciences for the Academic Session 2008-2009 and Award of ICAR’s Junior Research Fellowships (JRF).
Important dates are as given below.
• Sale of information Bulletins with Application Forms (Cash or DD) : 20th February – 31st March, 2008
• Sale by post (DD only; details given below) ; 20th February – 28 March, 2008
• Last date for receipt of filled forms in ICAR : 07 April, 2008 (For remote areas: 14 April, 2008)
• Date and time of Examination : 17th May 2008 (Saturday); 10.00-12.30 hrs.
The details of the Major Subject Groups and the Subject areas have been given in the Information Bulletin. The Junior Research Fellowships based on merit can be availed in Agricultural Universities, ICAR Institutes base Deemed-to-be-Universities, and other institutions in which admissions are granted, There are 475 Fellowships (JRF) in 20 major subject groups which will be awarded based on merit rank of the candidate in this examination.
The Fellowships at present are at the rate of Rs. 8,000/- per month for graduates of Veterinary Science and Rs.5,760/- per month for graduates in other disciplines for a period of two years with a contingent grant of Rs. 6,000/- per annum for all. Fellowship rates are likely to be revised. 15% seats and JRF are reserved for S.C., 7.5% for S.T., and 3% for Physically Handicapped (P.H.) candidates.
Reservation for OBC will be applicable in Central Universities namely IARI, IVRI, NDRI, CIFE, CAU, BHU, AMU, and Viswa Bharti as per Govt. of India directives and communication of seats by these Universities, Two percent seats are also reserved for the candidates from Under-Privileged States (UPS) not having any Agricultural/ Veterinary University. There is no reservation of JRF for candidate from OBC and UPS categories. They would be entitled for JRF based on overall merit. There will not be any direct nomination for admissions.
The admissions as well as JRF will be given only to those candidates who join the Master’s Degree Programme in a University/ Institute other than from where he/she has obtained Bachelor’s Degree except NDRI, Karnal for the Academic Session commencing 2008 only. Candidates studying for their master’s degree in 1st year can also apply, However, for seeking fresh admission, JRF holders will have to refund the entire amount of JRF received with interest.
ELIGIBILITY:
Candidates having passed their Bachelor’s Degree (or appearing in final year examination during the year 2008), in the field of Agriculture, Veterinary, Agricultural Engineering, Fisheries, Horticulture, Home Science, Sericulture, Dairy Engineering, Forestry, Agri. Marketing Banking and Cooperation, Food Science & Technology, Biotechnology, Process & Food Engineering, Computer Science, Basic, and Allied Sciences under 10+2+4 (most seats) or 10+2+3 (only few seats) are eligible for admission.
Candidates must have obtain OGPA 6.50/10.00 for General, OBC and UPS categories and 5.50/ 10.00 or equivalent for SC, ST and Physically handicapped categories.
For admission in the subject of Veterinary Sciences, candidates must have completed B.V.Sc.& A.H. with Internship before the date of registration in the University or December 31, 2008 which so ever is earlier.
He/ she should be an Indian National and should be completing minimum 19 year of age as on 31.08.2008.
The candidate appearing in the Bachelor’s Degree Examination in the year 2008 will have to submit Certificate/Provisional Marks Sheet signed by the Registrar of the University of their having completed the degree in all respects on the date of Counseling. Non-submission of documentary evidence for having completed the Degree at the time of Counseling will disqualify the candidate.
Most of the participating Universities/ Institutes in this Examination require four years U.G. degree. In few Universities/ Institute and in few subjects, graduates from non-agricultural stream with 3 years U.G. degree are also eligible for admission. For such candidates, if admitted, the duration of Master’s Degree Programme would be of 3 years as the 1st year will be for completing remedial courses in Agriculture and no fellowship would be paid during the first year to such candidates. For admission, the candidate has to fulfill the eligibility criteria of the admitting University. Due to small number of seats open for candidates from 3 years U.G. degree programmes, ICAR would not assume any responsibility for admitting such candidates even if they qualify and attend Counseling if the vacancies get filled by higher rankers.
Applications
Information Bulletins with Application Forms will be available for sale from 20 February, 2008 up to 31st March, 2008 and can be obtained against Cash payment of Rs. 500/- + Rs. 25/- (Sale Charges) for General, OBC and UPS Categories, and Rs. 250/- + Rs.25/- (Sale Charge) for S.C., S.T., and P.H. categories from the offices of the Registrars of State Agricultural Universities, CAU Imaphal and Syndicate Bank Branches at (1) K.A.B. Extension Counter, Pusa, New Delhi - 110012, (2) Arunachal Building, Upper Ground Floor, Barakhamba Road, New Delhi- 110001, and (3) Jeevan Prakash Building, 1st floor, K.G. Marg, New Delhi- 110001. The Bank, Agricultural Universities and ICAR Institutes will not send the Information Bulletin by Post.

Information Bulletins with Application Forms can also be obtained by post from 20 February, 2008 to 28 March 2008 by sending a written request along with a Bank Draft of Rs. 550/- (Rs. 500/- as cost of Information Bulletin with Application Form + Rs. 50/- towards postage and handling charges) for General, OBC and UPS Categories and Rs. 300/- (Rs. 250/- as cost of Information Bulletin with Application Form + 50/- towards postage and handling charges) for S.C., S.T., and P.H. candidates. The Bank Draft should be drawn in favour of “Deputy Director General (Education), ICAR” payable at New Delhi.
A Self addressed envelope (size 30” x 25” ) without postal stamps should be sent with an application on plain paper and the Bank Draft to “The Controller of Examination, Education Division, Room No. 226, ICAR, KAB-II, Pusa, New Delhi – 110012”.
The requests received for the Information Bulletins and Application Forms by post after 28 March 2008 will not be entertained. The candidate may write the details of his/ her name and address on the back of the Bank Draft. It may be checked that the Bank Draft contains the name of the issuing bank and branch, signature of the issuing authority, amount in words, date of draft etc. clearly. In no case, ICAR will be held responsible for non-receipt of the application and bank draft or delay in postage.
Information Bulletin with Application Forms may also be obtained personally from 20 February, 2008 up to 31 March, 2008 by depositing Bank Draft without postage and handling charges at the sale counter of the following Institutions.

The last date for the receipt of Application Forms in the office of “The Controller of Examinations, Education Division, Room No. 226, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Krishi Anusandhan Bhavan-II, Pusa, New Delhi – 110012 is 07 April 2008.
However for the candidates belonging to the remote areas viz. Mizoram, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Ladakh Division of J&K State, Lahaul & Spiti District and Pangi Sub-division of Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep, the last date is 14 April 2008.
Application Forms received after the last date will be rejected and Education Division shall not be responsible for non-receipt of application within the time scheduled due to Postal delay or any other reason for delay, All disputes relating to the conduct of this examination or any matter connected with this advertisement shall be in the jurisdiction of DELHI COURT only.
