This article gives information about the advantages or the merits of departmental undertakings.


The advantages of departmental undertakings are as follows:-

(1) Essential Services: Essentials services cannot be provided by private sector. But government sector can easily provide essential services with the help of departmental undertakings.

(2) Implementing Policies: The government, with the help of public undertaking can easily implement its plan & policies in the country.

(3) Social Objects: Government can easily achieve its social, political & economic objectives & can provide essential services to its citizen at a very reasonable price.

(4) Secrecy: Due to strict government control, it is very easy to maintain secrecy.

(5) Easy Capital: It is wholly owned by government & financed from government treasury. Hence it is easy to get required capital.
