Acid rain & its disadvantages
As the name indicates acid rain is the excessive acids present in rain water. What may be the causes of this acid rain? It is caused by the deposition of oxides of sulfur, nitrogen & some of their oxidative products in the atmosphere. It is important to note that human activities also cause the presence of excess oxides of nitrogen & sulfur in the atmosphere.

The oxides of nitrogen & sulfur in humid conditions get dissolved in water & then get showered in the rain as sulfuric acid & nitric acid. Since acid is present in rain water it has certain disadvantages. They are given below.

We all know that water is essential for our life. But acid rain causes the acidification of drinking water. Acid rain causes the foliar damage to crops as well as acidification of soil. Aquatic systems are affected by this acid rain. The most important disadvantage of acid rain is that it is corrosive to exposed metals like rails. Some buildings are also affected by this acid rain.
