The first days in a new job are the most important for how you will be seen in the future by your boss and your colleagues. It is normal to be so and you have to know this and to try to do all your best so that these days to be in your privilege. The first and the most important thing to do is to be informed. Any major success in career is usually the result of a big effort and of a strategic plan. In the beginning,DevSeeker advices you to divide your strategy in two periods of time.
Before getting to the new job, don’t think about the problems which can divert you from a good impression and just think about what you have to do. Make a plan thinking what you can do in your first day. What can you do to get yourself noticed? What exactly don’t you want to happen? Take into consideration the following things when you think about your first days at the office:
Fist contact Use the information you had gathered before the interview. Look over the notes you have taken during the interview. Search on the internet useful information about the field you will work in.
It’s time for a change Think well if you are contented with your image and your activity from your last workplace. Transform your past experiences in premises to improve your work performances. If until now respecting terms, responsibilities and having a good relationship with your colleagues weren’t your strong points you should impose yourself new performance standards.
What can you say about yourself? Try to point out your abilities. Describing yourself in a good way is not the antonym of being modest. If you know you are good in analysis, that you have a mathematical way of thinking, that you notice all the details and it is a pleasure for you to correct the other’s copies because there is nothing which escapes your notice, tell these things when you introduce yourself to your colleagues. Be careful in what way you say all this information so that the others not to think of you as a braggart. Prepare a short speech. A way of exposing this information may be:
Good afternoon everyone, I’m Manjul Kumar and it’s a pleasure for me to join this company’s team. I graduated marketing and I usually worked in budget analyses and financial report. I have a mathematical way of thinking and a distributive focus and that is why nothing escapes my notice when I correct someone else’s copies. If somebody thinks that I can help in any of these fields, it will be a pleasure for me to try to. Thank you very much and I can’t wait meeting each of you.
If you thought about all these, half of your success is guaranteed. Your behaviour and results in two or three weeks will insure the other half. Focus on:
Learning the institutional structure You have to learn as fast as you can which are the key persons in the company, the general director, the department/project managers, the administrational personnel and your colleagues. Ask for the scheme of the company and if it doesn’t exist, try to draw it up yourself (if you have the time). Learn the procedures; ask to be instructed regarding communication politics with foreign clients and dealers. Each company has a standard procedure (written or not) of internal communication. Learn what channel (e-mail, fax, internal chat programmers, ERP applications, telephone, etc) you have to use for a certain message.
Which are your responsibilities? If you haven’t already received the ask for one. If it doesn’t exist try to find the followings: what are your daily/weekly/monthly/term responsibilities to whom and how you report directly, who are your colleagues and subordinates. It is indicated for you to know exactly all this information from the very beginning than to be surprised after six months to find out that you haven’t accomplished a responsibility you had no idea it existed.
Ask, ask, and ask You are new in the company and you have to find out as many as you can. It is better to clarify everything from the beginning. Think about your colleagues too, trying not to disturb them by interrupting them all the time.
In the end we draw your attention that actually the criteria any employer uses are the results. It is better to accomplish your tasks and have results as soon as you can. Don't forget that any boss will give more credit and time for accomodation to an employee who had good results from the beginning.

One thing that most of us do when we join an organization is form groups. It is essential that before you get linked to a group you get yourself familiarized with the environment in the organization. Getting in the wrong group can ruin your career options. Especially freshers feel out of place and like to keep company with people who are already in the organization. It is essential to know with whom you associate with.
