All India Pre-Medical / Pre-Dental Entrance Examination (AIPMT)


The Central Board of Secondary Examination, Delhi conducts an All India Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Entrance Exam to select the candidates at an all India level examination (except in the states of Jammu & Kashmir and Andhra Pradesh ) for admission to roughly 15% of the total seats for Medical/Dental Courses in all Medical/Dental colleges run by the Union of India, State Governments, Municipal or other local authorities in India. The announcement for All India Pre-medical Examination usually comes in October- November and tests are conducted in March or April.

Entrance examinations to Medical colleges/Dental colleges are conducted on an All India basis as well as state wise basis. Apart from this, some national level institutions also conduct their own entrance tests. The following are the details of All India Pre-Medical / Pre-Dental Entrance Examination (AIPMT) conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE).


Eligibility

Only Indian Nationals are eligible to apply.
He/She has completed 17 years at the time of admission or will complete the age on or before 31st December of the year of his/her admission.
The upper age limit for All India Pre-Medical Entrance Examination is 25 years as on 31st December of the year of the entrance examination. Further provided that this upper age limit shall be relaxed by a period of 5 (five) years for the candidates of Scheduled Castes/Schedule Tribes/Other Backward Classes.
The number of attempts which a candidate can avail at All India Pre-Medical / Pre-Dental Entrance Examination shall be limited to 3 (three) uniformly for all the candidates.

One time exception
Candidates who have already attained the age of 25 years and or availed three attempts or more will be permitted to appear in All India Pre-Medical / Pre-Dental Entrance Examination, 2007 as a last chance.

Qualifications

Candidates with Higher/Sr. Secondary Examination which is equivalent to 10+2 Higher/Sr. Secondary Examination after a period of 12 years study, the last two years of such study comprising Physics, Chemistry, Biology (which shall include practical tests in these subjects) and Mathematics or any other elective subject with English at a level not less than the core course for English as prescribed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training after introduction of the 10+2+3 educational structure as recommended by the National Committee on Education.

Minimum percentage of marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology is 50% in case of General Candidates and 40% for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes or Other Backward Classes. Candidates appearing at the qualifying examination prior to the competitive test or whose result is awaited can also apply and take up the test but he/she shall not be eligible for admission to the MBBS/Dental Course if the required percentage of marks is not met with at the time of first round of allotment by personal appearance.

The announcement for All India Pre-medical Examination comes in October- November and tests are conducted in March or April.

The Information Bulletin containing Application Form can be had against cash payment of Rs.400/- for General Category and Rs. 200/- for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe Category from the designated branches of the Canara/Syndicate Banks and Regional Offices of the Board located at Guwahati, Ajmer, Allahabad, Chandigarh and Chennai.

Information Bulletin and Application Form by post :

The Information Bulletin and Application Form can also be obtained by Speed Post/Registered Post by sending a written request with a Bank Draft/Demand Draft for Rs.450/- for General Category and Rs.250/- for SC/ST Category payable to "The Secretary, Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi" along with a Self Addressed Envelope of size 12” x 10”. Candidates can request for information bulletin through post at the following address before the last date of submission.

Important : Candidates must obtain Application Forms from the designated branches of Canara Bank and Regional Offices of CBSE only in cash. Application Form obtained from an unauthorized source will be rejected. Completed Application Form is to be dispatched by Registered Post/Speed Post only. Applications received after the last date of submission OR by Private Courier Services or any other means will not be accepted irrespective of the date of booking

Exam Schedule

The All India Pre-Medical / Pre-Dental Entrance Examination (AIPMT) entrance examination consists of two papers – Preliminary and Final Examination. Those who qualify in the Preliminary Examination are eligible to appear in the Final examination.

In AIPMT Preliminary Exam - Four parts of science will be given as separate parts ( 100 questions of Physics & Chemistry) & (100 questions of Botany and Zoology) in equal weightage with objective type questions. The total time and marks allowed will be 3 hours 600 marks respectively. There will be

For each incorrect response one third of the total marks allotted to the question would be deducted. No deduction from the total score will, however, be made if no response is indicated for an item in the answer sheet. The candidates are advised not to attempt such item in the answer sheet if they are not sure of the correct response.

The final exam would consist of two parts i. e. 100 questions of Physics and Chemistry and 100 questions of Botany and Zoology each of two hours duration. Final Entrance exam questions will be non objective. Each part carry 100 marks.

All India Pre-Medical / Pre-Dental Entrance Examination (AIPMT ) includes all the syllabus upto 12th Standard (Physics, Chemistry, Biology). The syllabus is common to both Preliminary and final exam.

Selection and Admission


Admissions to roughly 15% of the total seats for Medical/Dental Courses in all Medical/Dental colleges run by the Union of India, State Governments, Municipal or other local authorities in India except in the states of Jammu & Kashmir and Andhra Pradesh are regulated on the basis of merit in the All India Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Entrance Exam.

Allotment of seat by personal appearance of the candidates will be made by the DGHS, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Nirman Bhawan, New Delhi at Central Health Education Bureau, Kotla Road, New Delhi
