Here are some latest technique which helps in conceiving by artificial methods.

Every woman wants to be a mother. But sometimes they can't conceive naturally. Technology has provided helping hand to such people and has lightened a ray of hope in their dreams. Let's study some such techniques of conceiving.

ART (Assisted Reproductive Technology)

Those couples who can't be parents naturally or who have a big or serious disease (like AIDS, thyroid), ART is a blessing to them. Under this, pregnancy is done by various artificial methods:

Who need this technique?
• If married at the age of 30 or more and are trying for baby from the past 6 months, but not successful.
• If married before the age of 30 and are trying for baby from the past 1 year.
• If you are having risk in pregnancy, have risk to lives of mother or child or have risk of physical or mental disability of child.
• Couples have problems like AIDS, RH factor, PCOD.
Doctors decide after proper investigation that which technique is required in a couple and then it is followed accordingly.

Types of techniques

• IVF In Vitro Technique
• IUI Intrauterine Insemination
• ICSI Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection
• GIFT Gamete Intrafallopian Transfer
• ZIFT Zygote Intrafallopian Transfer

IVF (In Vitro fertilization)

This technique is also known as test tube baby. In this process, egg cells are fertilized outside the uterus. This technique is effective when all other techniques of conception are failed.

Who need this technique?
This technique is used for following couples:
• Fallopian tube of woman is blocked
• If women is a patient of T.B.
• Eggs are not made in woman's ovary (also known as polycystic ovary syndrome)
• Want to have baby at a mature age (after 50 years)
• Woman with menopause.
• Premature ovarian failure (periods stop at the age of 30)

Sometimes, the problem of couples remains undiagnosed even after all investigations. Such couples prefer IVF technique.

Process
1. All tests are done of woman. Blood sample is taken on the third day of her periods, by which it is tried to diagnose whether she is suffering from any kind of disease. Progress in the remaining is based on these test reports.
2. The position of uterus, cervical canal and ovary is diagnosed by ultrasound. It is also diagnosed that there will not be any kind of problem in conception through this technique.
3. When the egg of woman is of size 18-20 mm, then it is taken out of the body. Generally egg takes this size in 36 hours and then it starts shrinking itself. In this process, the egg is taken out before 36 hours. Then sperms are ejaculated on the egg. When any egg gets fertilized properly, then it is gain pit into the uterus of woman.

Time
The time taken depends upon the fact that what is the age of woman and what was the reason of non conception. If her age is less than 30 years, then the process will take less and also possibility of success will increase to 40%. The rate of success is 35% or less if the age of woman is more than 30. This is because the quantity and quality of egg falls down with the increment in age. Also, the weight of woman should be appropriate else she need to reduce her weight for conception by this method.

Expenses
Every step of IVF technique demands expense of Rs. 80,000 to Rs. 1.25 lakhs. As a whole, the total expense is about Rs. 4-5 lakhs. But this expense is about Rs. 50,000-60,000 in government hospitals.

Precautions
Males following IVF technique have a fear in their mind that whether they will get back their sperms or not. Some institutions misuse this technique. Good institutions take only one or two samples in one day to avoid any mistake of exchange of sperms or eggs. Couple taking advantage of this technique should also take care of this fact.

IUI

Sometimes, males' sperms are not in a good condition or they remain outside the ovary during intercourse. In this technique, sperms are washed properly in the lab and good sperms are injected directly in the uterus of the lady.

Who need this technique?
This technique is used for following couples:
• Sperms are very less or are not in good condition.
• One fallopian tube of lady is not normal.
• Problem in cervix (mouth of uterus).
• Couples don't like to do sex.

Sperm bank
If sperms are les then conception can be done from sperm bank. Sperms can also damage if the male partner is suffering from any disease. Thus sperms can be purchased from sperm bank for pregnancy purpose.

Sperm donor
If you want that any of your relative provide you his sperms rather than purchasing them from outside, then you can take them from any of your friends or relative. Such person is called sperm donor.

Time
Time taken in this process is 24 hours. Sperms are injected in woman's uterus after they get fertilized.

Expenses
Although each sperm bank have different rates but normally sperms can be purchased in Rs. 600 to Rs. 2000. Other than this, sperms' quality can be improved through treatment. The expense in this is approx. Rs. 30,000-40,000.

Success
Generally, babies born by this technique are healthy but in some cases, the baby has very less weight. Such babies are very delicate.

Precautions
Ladies conceiving through this technique should not do much exercise. Jogging and aerobics should be totally avoided. Proper rest should be taken in the initial time period of pregnancy.

ICSI

In this technique, male's sperms and female's egg is fertilized outside the body. Only one sperm is entered into the egg through a pipe. It is then put into the uterus after fertilization.

Who need this technique?
Female partner is alright but male has no sperms.

Sperm bank
Since male has no sperms, so they are taken from a third person. Sperm bank is a good option for this purpose. Help of sperm donor can also be taken. But be sure that the sperm donor is not suffering from any disease.

Time taken
Fertilization takes 2-3 days. Then sperms are entered in the uterus.

Expenses
Purchase of sperms and rest of the treatment has an expense of Rs. 40,000-50,000.

Success
The rate of success is only one third. Thus there is no 100% guarantee of having a baby through this technique.

GIFT

In this technique, mixture of male's sperms and female's egg is entered directly in the fallopian tube through a machine, which is then entered into the uterus of the lady. But lady's fallopian tube should be in perfect condition for this method. This technique is used as an artificial intercourse. However this technique is used very rarely.

ZIFT

In this technique, egg is taken out from the ovary of the lady and it is then fertilized with the sperms in the lab. Then the fertilized egg is pit into the fallopian tube. Woman's tube and man's sperms should be perfect in this technique.
