SMOT’s smart management programme
SMOT, a management school, will launch its Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM) in September 2007 in Chennai and Hyderabad.
The four –semester, sixteen month programme will take off with the first intake of 130 students each at Chennai and Hyderabad, the school’s Director R.Narasimhan told press persons here on Friday.
Post Placement Attrition
Mr.Narasimhan said the programme was aimed at minimizing post placement attribution of management graduates various sectors. “Management. In SMOT, placement is incidental, what we focus on is the afterward. A study reveals the 40 per cent management graduates leave their first job in the first three months, while 70 percent leave their first job in the first year. This problem of misfit is not being addressed at all”. It was found that there was a clear gap between what was required and what was taught at B-schools. SMOT analyzed all the jobs in the entire spectrum and found that 24 were the most sought after ones by management graduates.
The curriculum for the 247 functional areas or tracks was revamped.
The 16 – Month programme was designed in such a way that the students learnt the common fundamentals in the first two terms. “By that time they would have decided on their career option. Then they can choose from one of the 24 tracks. Once they complete, the companies who come for placement are told who are trained in which track
This concept has been devised having the interest of the industry at heart which take the graduates at such a high price”, Mr.Narasimhan said. The programmes would be recognized jointly by the Canadian Association of Management. Consultants and Course fee would be Rs.4.30 lakh Accommodation charges would be separate.

Applications can be downloaded from www.smot.edu.in. Entrance Examinations would be held every Saturday online. Short listed candidates would undergo an interview and group discussion. Last date for receipt of filled in application would be July 27. Course would commence on September 5, 2007.
