Competition is increasing day by day. It was already there in engineering field now it has become prominent in teaching sector also. B-Ed degree is now no longer criteria for a eligible candidate for becoming a school teacher. Every day newspapers are filled with news about low quality of teaching at school level. So government has decided to overcome this problem and increasing quality and standard of teaching. So now aspiring teachers will have to cross one more mile stone for coming to the level of teaching in schools.
Government has introduced an eligibility test for a teacher which has named '
Teacher Eligibility Test
' (TET). It is a necessary qualification for a teaching job in school whether it is a government, private, aided or unaided type. Minimum score for qualifying this test is 60%. TET will be conducted once a year by state governments and centre separately. If state will not conduct TET then merit for centre will be considered for that state. Validity of certificate will be decided by state or center government. For validity this certificate should not be more than seven years old. A candidate can give this exam as many times as he can for attaining the TET certificate. An aspirant can appear again for the exam for improving his/her score.
National council for teacher education will preserve their database. Due to massive recruitment states will follow the right to education act, NCET. Many states are going to start the recruitment process.
TET will compose of two papers with multiple choice questions (MCQs). Paper I will be for aspiring teachers of first to fifth class. Paper II will be for aspiring teacher of sixth to eighth class. Teacher for first to eight classes will have to appear for both papers.
In paper I, candidates will be assessed for topic like child development and pedagogy, language of instruction, optional language, mathematics and environmental studies.
30 questions will be asked in each paper with one mark each. Question on child development will ask about educational psychology of teaching. Language paper will focus on proficiency, elements of language, communication and comprehension abilities. MCQs on mathematics and environmental studies will ask about basic concepts and problem solving ability.
In paper II, will ask about child development and pedagogy, language I, II. Mathematics and social and environmental science will be only for concerned teachers.
