Workshop on Wireless Sensor Networks
SSN COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING Old Mahabalipuram Road, SSN Nagar, Kalavakkam - 603 110.
Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering
Organizes two day Workshop on WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS April 18 - 19, 2008
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP :
The recent revolution in computing: Ubiquitous Computing: is a sequel to advances in embedded systems as well as mobile technologies. Consequently, intelligent devices have become not only all pervasive, but also effectively invisible to the user. In this connection, the emergence of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) has facilitated a large number of application that include, inter alia: health, agriculture, geology, environment, security, retail, military, home, and emergency management. The development of sensor networks requires technologies from three different research areas: sensing, communication, and computing (including hardware, software, and algorithms). The research and development activities derive new concepts and protocols from distributed computer networks such as the internet. During the recent past, available computing capacity has become progressively smaller and cheaper. The inexpensive, low-power communication devices and components such as MEMS can be effectively deployed throughout a physical space, providing dense sensing close to physical phenomena; as well as the need to process and communicate the resulting information to various nodes. The individual devices in a conventional WSN are inherently resource constrained with limited processing speed, storage capacity, and communication bandwidth. This Workshop is an effort to create awareness on varied facets of Wireless Sensor Networks: an emerging paradigm of computing and networking. It is intended to address issues such as data processing, communication techniques, power management, algorithms, applications, etc. vis-à-vis WSNs and provide a platform for teachers and researchers from the industry and academia to exchange information on recent trends in such areas.
SCOPE OF THE WORKSHOP :
1) Overview of Wireless Sensor Networks 2) Fault Tolerant Issues in WSN 3) Power Management in WSN 4) Communication and Routing Protocols in WSN 5) Security Issues 6) WSN Applications.
RESOURCE PERSONS :
The various sessions for the above courses will be handled by the experts drawn from the industry and academia, in addition to the in-house experts.
