SCOPE OF THE WORKSHOP: The proposed workshop to be held on 11th April, 2008 aims mainly at PG Students, B.Tech / M.tech and PhD Students of Chemical Science, Physics, and Material science engineering streams. The main aim is to make the students aware of the advanced materials for opto electronic devices.
Semi conducting organic materials have attracted interest during the last decades due to their interesting optoelectronic properties. Their application in new flexible and transparent devices, their tuning possibilities, and their potential low cost in the manufacturing lead to an increase of the academic activity in this field. The advances in the last decade attracted the interest of the industries, and also many companies have nowadays their own development division working on the field of organic electronics.
At present, many applications of organic semiconductors have been demonstrated, and several devices that make use of organic semi conducting materials have already been in the market. In particular, low-weight organic molecules show very interesting optoelectronic properties and hence been used for the development of new applications as transparent devices, waveguides, large-area flat displays, or organic solar cells. Similar to the conventional inorganic semiconductors, organic semiconductors are used in order to uplift the electronic properties of the material that is highly ordered structures and free of contaminants which is the requirement in the formation of thin films.
The workshop intends to bring together the academic industry and R&D professionals working in this area around the nation for exchanging views and technological inputs.
ABOUT NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY: The National Institute of Technology (formerly known as Regional Engineering College) Trichy, situated in the heart of TamilNadu on the banks of river Cauvery, was started as a joint and co-operative venture of Government of India and Government of TamilNadu during 1964 with a view to cater to the needs of manpower in technology for the country. The National Institute of Technology is a premier institution of India and is known for its high standards in teaching and research.
ABOUT DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY: The Department of Chemistry of the National Institute of Technology is one of the oldest chemistry departments in the country with 10 faculties and nearly 30 research scholars in addition to 40 M.Sc., students. The scientific contributions of the department, in almost all frontline areas of chemistry have already made a mark on the international scene. The department has so far produced more than 40 Ph.D. degree holders.
HOW TO REACH THE INSTITUTE: NIT is situated on Tanjore High-way about 25kms south of Trichy airport and 19kms west of Trichy bus stand and railway station. The campus is wellconnected by bus, rail and air.
