Indian Institute of Management Calcutta
General Management Programme for Young Executives
Prof. Biswatosh Saha and Prof. Sushil Khanna
Date 21 July 2008 to 30 July 2008
Venue Tata Hall, IIMC, Joka
Fees Rs. 60000 INR
Programme Context
Businesses in India are on a growth path with positive expectations and ambitious investment plans. The business environment is undergoing considerable changes at the same time. The old monolithic corporate/managerial structures are giving way to lean organizations, supply chains, wide business networks, contractual forms of engagement with multiple organizations, integration across businesses/firms around processes. As businesses prepare for this growth and negotiation with the changes, young managers are being called upon to take up increasingly challenging new roles with general management orientation fairly early on in their careers. Many of them, however, would not have had the occasion to go through formal management programs. Yet, they would have a rich repertory of functional/technological knowledge and experience. An awareness and exposure to issues and concepts around general management would help young ambitious executives take off in their careers leveraging this opportunity. This program is designed with that purpose in mind. It would expose participants to different functional areas of management and help them connect their specialized experience to general management concerns and issues.
The Programme will help in:
(a) Developing a wider perspective on the rapid changes in global businesses aiming to achieve conceptual synthesis between functional/technological and general management imperatives. (b) Discerning the meaning of some of the new changes for organizational practices, routines and managerial functions. (c) Managing in a global network.
Program faculty
Faculty from different functional areas and academic groups will interact with the participants during the program. Lectures, case discussions and other interactive modes would be used. A few sessions would be devoted to practitioner interaction as well. The program would be coordinated by Prof Sushil Khanna and Prof Biswatosh Saha of the Strategy Group.
