About the Programme
The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta is proud to announce its flagship Advanced Management Programme (AMP) for the year 2008 designed for senior executives and decision-makers of both the public and private sectors. The Advanced Management Programme provides an opportunity for experienced managers to develop the skills necessary for managing firms effectively in a rapidly changing environment.
The Programme has been designed in the context of increasing global competition which creates new pressures on firms. The emerging business environment poses both formidable risks as well as exciting opportunities and senior executives need to develop and implement a clear vision of the firm’s future. To be effective leaders, they need to develop skills in diverse functional areas of management and also understand global trends which are shaping corporate strategy today.
AMP 2008 is designed with these new challenges in mind. This Programme will help senior executives to :
1) Acquire a wider perspective of the multidimensional context for doing business;
2) Develop a strategic vision that would enable them to develop structured responses to an unpredictable and dynamic technological environment.
3) Analyze emerging opportunities, available resources and the effectiveness of organisational structures, systems and processes.
4) Formulate and implement corporate policies to gain competitive advantage.
Programme Design
AMP 2008 will be in two modules. Nominations can be sent either for both the Modules or for only the first Module.
Module I : Two week On-Campus Programme
Venue : Management Development Centre, Tata Hall, IIMC, Joka Campus
Duration : August 25 – September 6, 2008
The two-week Module I would incorporate the following areas :
Business and Economic Environment : Factors influencing the Economic, Political, Social, Legal, Financial, Physical and International Environments and their impact on Organisational Performance; Issues in Corporate Governance.
Strategic Management : Global Competition & Corporate Strategy, Strategic Alliances, Mergers & Acquisitions and Corporate Restructuring. Technology Strategy & Management, Knowledge Management and Strategy Execution.
Organisation Issues : Management of Change, Leadership, Conflict Management & Negotiation Strategies, Issues in Right-sizing the Organisation.
Management Functions : Functional strategies in the areas of Finance, Marketing Projects, Operations, and Human Resources; Decision Support Systems and Information Technologies; Issues in Integration of Functional Strategies.
A blend of lectures by the Institute’s Faculty and eminent speakers from industry and Government, Case Studies, Discussions, Management Games and Group Work will be used to achieve the learning objectives.
Module II : Foreign Study Visit
Duration : September 14 – September 27, 2008
This Module is a fourteen day study tour abroad with the purpose of familiarizing participants with the corporate culture and management practices of some leading enterprises in countries like South Africa, Brazil, Venezuela, Spain (Any three countries would be chosen). This visit would provide an opportunity for understanding some of the corporate practices and innovations of successful firms in these countries. The visit will also help participants understand the nature of their business environment and how it influences corporate strategy and performance. A country wise study report will be required from the participants at the end of the study tour.
Participants
The Programme is designed for top/senior level executives and decision-makers of both public and private sector enterprises who are likely to assume corporate/board level responsibilities in the near future.
Programme Fee
Module I - Rs. 75,000 per participant
Module I & II - Rs 2,70,000 per participant. This fee includes (a) Round trip air fare – Departure ex Kolkata but participants can leave in Frankfurt and reach their respective destinations as the case may be; (b) Visa Fees; (c) Medical Insurance; (d) Other organisation expenses related to arranging the study visit abroad. However, this does not include : (i) Per Diem foreign exchange allowance; (ii) Any local transport expenses in India and abroad; (iii) Charges of interpreters.
Registration
Participants nominated for the Programme will report at the Management Development Centre, Tata Hall, IIM Calcutta, Joka by the afternoon of 24th August, 2008.
Participants of Module II should bring with them their (a) Passport (valid at least up to 30th April, 2009), (b) 15 copies of passport-size colour photograph, (c) Six ‘No Objection Certificates’, in original, from their employers indicating that their organisation wil bear all expenses of participants abroad, (d) Xerox copy of last 3 years Income Tax Return, and (e) Xerox copy of Bank Pass Book/Statement of last 6 months. The programme will commence at 9.00 a.m. on 25th August 2008 at Tata Hall of the Institute.
Direction to reach Tata Hall
Participants are to make their own arrangement to arrive at Tata Hall from Calcutta Airport or Howrah Railway Station. You may take a prepaid taxi available at both Calcutta Airport as well as at Howrah Railway Station. From Airport it takes about one and half hour and from Howrah Railway Station it takes an hour to reach campus. Once inside campus please ask the security to direct you to Tata Hall.
Enrolment
Duly completed Enrolment Forms along with Account Payee Cheque or Demand Draft drawn in favour of Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, payable at Kolkata, should reach the following address on or before August 10, 2008.
