INDIAN INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT CALCUTTA
Management Development Programme on Functional Management Programme in Operations, Finance and Systems
December 1-5, 2008
at
MDC, Tata Hall IIM Calcutta Campus Diamond Harbour Road, Joka Kolkata – 700104
Programme Director
Prof. Subrata Mitra
Introduction
Globalization and increased competition have significant impact on economies and businesses throughout the world. An organization, be it for-profit or not-for-profit, has to have a relook at its operations as a result of continuously evolving business and environmental dynamics. Failure to adapt to the changing economic and competitive environment would drive an organization out of operations and business. The impact of change in an organization is also felt on its constituents, i.e. different divisions and functional areas. The ways in which different functional areas operate and their interrelationships have to evolve in order to suit the changing needs of the organization. Three significant functional areas in any organization are operations, finance and systems. The impact of globalization and increased competition would be most felt on these three functional areas. This five-day functional management programme has been designed to highlight the new developments in the functional areas of operations, finance and systems in the light of changing business dynamics. The programme would also expose participants to the interdependencies and relationships among these three and other functional areas of an organization. The mode of delivery would be through a mix of classroom lectures, case discussions, interactions and participation in a simulated game. It is expected that participants would learn new concepts, tools and techniques through classroom discussions and interactions with faculty members and fellow participants, both in- and out-of-classroom, which they would be able to apply in their own set-up and organization to steer it in the right direction in this globalized and highly competitive economic and business environment.
