In this article, I would discuss about verbal communication and various tips for developing great communication skill required for all round development in today's competitive world. In my next articles, I would discuss about barriers to communication and Non verbal communication which will be published shortly.

First of all what we should know is

"What is communication?"

'Communication' comes from the Latin word communicare which means 'sharing'. Communication is the exchange of information, ideas and knowledge between sender and receiver through an accepted code of symbols. As we all know, the gift of speech is given only to us in civilized manner by God and language is most significant and important medium for communication but at the present moment we are mostly wasting this precious gift by using it in improper fashion.
Firstly,We will first understand the process of verbal communication. There are six main components in verbal communication –
1) Sender - One who encodes message and sends it in channel.
2) Message(Code)- The information in the form of codes and symbols of language.
3) Channel- The medium for propagation of information.
4) Semantic Gap- The semantic gap is the space where message changes due to difference in actual interpretation by the receiver.
5) Receiver- One who decodes the message and gives response.
6) Feedback- Barometer of effective communication which provides information whether communication is successful or not.

Noise is one of the unwanted feature which has to be controlled for making the communication successful. Noise can be understood as anything which hampers or interferes in the process of successful communication. This can be anything such as due to faulty pronunciation, very high speed of speaking. Improper use of punctuations or very long paragraphs can be considered noises in written communication. Noises should always be minimized.

Tips to make communication more effective

Use the name-

Always try to use the name of the person you are addressing frequently and positively if you wish to make the most of the message you are communicating.

Good Listener-

To become a good speaker, a person should first become a good listener first. To be effective at communication, one must be able to grasp the information provided by the other person. If one understands what others are saying then it is much easier to find a way to make one's message relevant to others.

Start from common agenda-

One should always try to start the intellect on a common ground on which both sender and receiver are comfortable so as to keep the mood ticking over. People call this the "get them saying yes" strategy.

Open Communication Environment-

One should always try to maintain a open environment so that communication can move with various considerations and ideas. Sender should never become obstinate and fixed at his ideas but should also considers ideas from others. He should also keep in mind various linguistic and cultural diversities which can be present in communication system.

Always analyze the Feedback-

A sender should always analyze the response which he/she receives at the end or during his communication so that he can see how effective his communication was and where is scope of improvement.

I hope you all will find my article useful in some way and would try to keep these things in mind while communicating with others. I will be waiting eagerly for your feedback as you all know now analyzing feedback is away to effective communication.
Thank You.
