Indian Institute of Management Bangalore
Creativity, Reinvention and Self Development for Practicing Managers - I
Programme Director: Prof. Ramnath Narayanswamy
Venue: IIMB Campus
Dates: 2-6 June, 2008
Program Objectives
Creativity is the original natural resource in management because it is the singular faculty that enables effective managers. The purpose of the program lies in (a) exposing practicing managers to the creative process, (b) embed a respect and confidence in their creative selves and (c) help managers to internalize their own creative strengths in their vocations. We propose to accomplish these objectives by (a) putting participants through practical workshops on team-building, role internalization and self-interrogation through the medium of theatre (b) helping participants in tapping their creative arsenal and (b) by incorporating a module on self-development that enables them to unbundle their creative potential.
Venue and Date:
The program will be held in the verdant campus of IIM Bangalore between 2- 6 June, 2008. Participants are expected to arrive on the evening of 1st June and can plan their departures for the evening of 6th June, after 5 pm.
Participant Profile:
We are looking for senior or middle managers across industries who currently engage challenging responsibilities who aspire to build their creative capacities and develop an exciting agenda of self-transformation. This is a capacity building program in developing creative, emotional and spiritual intelligence that together constitute the three essential ingredients of successful leadership. It will be useful for senior managers seeking to embed creative processes within their organizations that result in innovation.
Program Content:
Teamwork is based on supportiveness, spontaneity, adaptation and empowerment. Participants will be exposed to exercises that enable them to overcome the gap between idea and expression, give up self-censorship and take risks without the fear of being penalized. This sends out positive messages of acceptance, disarming team members and newcomers instead of transmitting negative messages of denial rooted in the ego.
Participants will also be exposed to adaptation exercises through which we learn to give way and co-operate instead of being stiff and resistant to other's feelings and ideas. Adaptation exercises help participants by making them sensitive and responsive to inner feelings, their own and those of others. It also helps in creative problem solving in-group settings such as brainstorming, strategizing and setting up collective aspirations and outcomes. They enhance your learning to empower people in your group, being versatile with status, rather than getting stuck because of habit or learnt behavior, in playing as it you always occupy a high or low status in relation to others. A set of course materials will be given to all participants on arrival.
