Introduction
Growth of software industry in India and other developing countries is substantially linked to their ability in developing and sustaining human capital. A number of software companies in this part of the world are in the business of providing service support. And hence, they need a large number of leaders for internal as well as external co-ordination with customers and other agencies. The challenge is much bigger because many of the software professionals do not wish to spend time and effort for acquiring leadership skills. It is in this context that this programme aspires to help the software professionals to acquire relevant and valid leadership skills. The programme is designed based on the research and consultancy work by the programme faculty for software organizations in India as well as in neighbouring countries
Programme Goal
The programme has been specifically designed for the software professionals to make them aware about themselves and their leadership styles. The programme will focus on issues related to managerial effectiveness in software service organisations. Specifically, the programme will strive to achieve following learning objectives:
To help the participants become aware of themselves in terms of their hopes, aspirations, values and vision.
To facilitate the participants to become aware of their interpersonal behaviour and its impact on their managerial effectiveness.
To create awareness amongst the participants about their leadership style. Further the programme will facilitate the participants to acquire skills in managing projects and manage knowledge workers in software service organizations.
To acquire skills for attracting and retaining talents
To help the participants to become aware about factors that empower, inspire and motivate them and their team members.
To develop skills in effective team working and group decision-making. Particularly, the programme will focus on issues involved in managing and being part of virtual teams.
To help the participants to appreciate how documentation can help them to improve their role performance and performance of the organisation. Further, the programme will focus on issues involved in creating culture for knowledge management.

Methodology
The programme will essentially use multiple experiential processes such as case method, role-plays, exercises and games to help the participants to examine leadership issues and challenges experienced by them. Participants are encouraged to send us human problems and issues of concern to them and we will discuss those issues as a part of the programme.
Participants Profile
Project leaders, module leaders and software professionals being groomed for leadership positions are likely to benefit from the programme. HR managers and other supporting staff will find the programme relevant and useful. Our experience suggests that the transfer of learning from classroom to the work situation is more effective when a team of two or more participants from the same organisation participate in the programme. Dr Narendra M. Agrawal is a Professor in Organizational Behaviour and Human Resource Management Area. He is an Engineering Graduate, Postgraduate in Personnel Management and Fellow of IIM Ahmedabad. Before joining IIMB, Dr. Agrawal worked for twenty-four years in the industry.
Professor Agrawal’s areas of research interests are essentially organisation focused and multi-disciplinary in nature. His current research interests are human side of IT enterprises, managing knowledge workers, creating learning and innovative organisations, story telling as a way of leadership development, changing work culture for TQM and ISO 9000 and managing change. Professor Agrawal is a consultant to a large number of public and private sector enterprises, and to central and state Government in India and abroad. He has designed and conducted more than 400 management development programmes for executives from manufacturing and service organisations such as software organisations, financial institutions, hospitals, banks, educational institutions and voluntary agencies. He has published and presented more than 40 papers in national and international conferences and journals.
