How to apply online for Moma Scholarship 2015-16


Moma Scholarship is Prime Minister's New 15 Point Program. Under this program, the poor and intelligent students of minority class can apply for scholarship. Moma Scholarship has the main aim of providing financial help to the brilliant students of minority communities so that they can pursue higher and professional qualification. It is an initiative of Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India to provide assistance to minority community students with financial aids. Earlier there was online one type of scholarship offered, but now two types of scholarships are offered:

  • Merit cum means based scholarship
  • Post-Matric scholarship

Merit cum means based scholarship


This scheme is meant for the Indian students belonging to minority community. It provides financial support to poor meritorious students of minority community and help them in pursuing degree and/or post graduate level technical and/or professional courses from a recognized institution. The scholarship is awarded through a special agency designated by the State Government/UT Administration for this purpose. 20000 scholarships are distributed every year under this scheme. Distribution of scholarships is done on the basis of population of community in each state.



Amount of scholarship and its payment


Rate of scholarship at which aid is provided is Rs.20,000/- per annum or actual amount, whichever is less. Maintenance allowance is also provided for 10 months at the rate of Rs. 10,000 per annum for hostler and Rs. 5,000 per annum for day scholar. Course fee is paid by the State Department directly to the concerned institute while maintenance allowance is credited to the student's account.

Post-Matric scholarship

It is a Prime Ministers New 15 Point Programme which aims for the welfare of minorities. As the name clarifies, it is a post-matric scholarship scheme for meritorious students from minority communities belonging to economically weaker sections. This scheme covers education in India in a government or private higher secondary school/college/university, including such residential institutes of the Government and eligible private institutes selected and notified in a transparent manner by the concerned State Government/UT Administration. It will also cover technical and vocational courses in ITI/ Industrial Training Centres affiliated with the NCVT of classes XI and XII level.

Now you must be willing to know that who are covered and considered as minority community. All Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists and Zoroastrians (Parsis) people are covered as minority communities under Section 2 (c) of the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992.

Eligibility to apply for Moma Scholarship

The eligibility criteria is as follow:
  • The total annual income of the applicant or his parents/ guardian should not be more than Rs. 2.50 lakh and Rs. 2 lakh respectively for Merit cum means based scholarship and Post-Matric scholarship.
  • Students who get admission in the college to pursue technical or professional courses with or without facing any competitive exam are eligible for this scholarship but those getting admission without facing any such exam must have scored at least 50% marks in 10+2 or in graduation.
  • The applicant should not be enjoying benefit of any other scholarship or stipend or grant.
  • Scholarship will be continued for subsequent year only if beneficiary completes the course successfully during the preceding year.
  • Maximum two children from same family can avail the benefit of Post-Matric scholarship.

How to apply for Moma Scholarship 2015-16

The procedure to apply for Moma Scholarship is as follow:
  • Submit the application in the prescribed format to the secretary of the department of the concerned state government or UT administration. Please note that the applicant have to submit the application to the state authority to where he or she belongs and not to the state authority where he/ she is studying.
  • The application should consists duly filled application form in prescribed format, a passport size photographs with signature of the applicant, Xerox of certificate/ diploma/ degree of recent examination passed, proof of income through an affidavit or non judicial stamp paper and permanent address proof.
