Many of us find it convenient to travel by train to faraway places and usually book the tickets through booking agent or by visiting station. But let me tell you at this time it is very easy to book ticket through visiting online site of railway.

Procedure for registration on site


To start with this site you need to do is to create a login id of yours with registering yourself on the site. What you all need to do is to open the site and click on signup. Here you have to enter your full details and required information. The registration with site is totally free and no amount is charged. One thing you need to remember that railway is very strict to its registration policy and online ticket booking hence, you need to provide only correct details. And in case of fake details your account will be blocked.
For booking online ticket you need to have either online banking facility or should have debit or credit card.

How to book e-ticket


After registration now you are ready to book ticket. Just follow the simple steps and it's done.

  1. Open the irctc site

  2. Enter your login Id and password.

  3. Enter the code of station from where you want to travel and code of station up to where you want to make journey.

  4. Select date of journey, ticket and quota. Under quota you can select general, tatkal or ladies.

  5. Then click find trains, here you will get the details of all available trains with all class available.

  6. Then select the train you want to book and the class you want to travel. Now you will get the details of availability of berth in particular train with fare and distance to be travel.

  7. Click on book and you will be directed to next page where you need to enter passenger details. Enter the require details and make the online payment and it's done. Congrats your ticket is booked.


How to cancel the e-ticket


The cancelation of e-ticket is also as much as easy as booking. Just you have to enter your login Id and password. Here you will find the option cancel e-ticket, click on the same and renter your password. Select the ticket you want to cancel and submit the details. In few working days we will get you money back in same account from which ticket is booked. But there are some rules of railway for ticket cancellation here are few:

  1. Cancel the ticket before chart preparation. The chart usually prepared 4 hours before departure of train.

  2. Cancellation after chart preparation is not allowed through online cancellation.

  3. If you are travelling and want refund after four hours, you need to file TDR for the same.


If your ticket is full wait list either it is General quota ticket or Tatkal quota ticket, do not cancel the ticket. This kind of ticket is automatically canceled by railway and amount is credited to your account within 5-6 working days.

Rules for refund on ticket cancel


Here are the points how railway refund on tickets:-

  • If cancelation is done before 24 hours of departure of train cancelation charges per passenger are:

  • Rs.20 for second class ticket

  • Rs.40 for sleeper class

  • Rs.60 for 2nd AC, 3rd AC and AC chair car

  • Rs.70 for 1st AC and executive class


  • If cancelation is done before 4 hours and after 24 hours the flat 25% is deducted of fare or charges mentioned above whichever is maximum.

  • If you want to cancel ticket and it's less than 4 hours in train departure you need to file TDR.

  • The TDR can be filled in 30 days from date of journey and will be processed in 90 days.

  • If your ticket is booked under tatkal quota and it's a confirm ticket the rules are:

  • Cancellation before 24 hrs of departure, only 25% amount will be refunded, of charged fare excluding tatkal charges.

  • Cancellation in less than 24 hrs no amount will be refunded.


  • If your ticket is under full wait list either it is a General or tatkal ticket, do not cancel the ticket. It will be canceled automatically by railway and full amount is refunded to you.


  • So now book your ticket in an easy way and enjoy life.
