It was a time when I had just finished writing my Pre University Examination. I was in the meantime going for Typing and Shorthand classes and had nothing useful to be done other than attending these classes.
One of my friend who works for a reputed consultancy firm had an offering for candidates for the position of Secretary with specialization in Typing and Shorthand from Smithkline Beecham. Since she had my CV with her, she happened to forward it to them and I was shortlisted among several CVs.
My interview was conducted by the HR Executive.
First of all we were given a candidate details form and were asked to fill in the details which included Name, Father’s name, address (Just a form of a Bio-data).
Then immediately we were given a dictation for 10 minutes in shorthand and we had to transcribe it in English and put it on a computer.
The candidates who were successful in this test were allowed to go for the 2nd round interview with HR.
The HR was a lady who first asked me about my family background.
Secondly the education qualification. Amongst the candidates who had come, since I was in the regular touch of attending shorthand classes, I had very minor errors and was more preferred than other candidates.
The HR after looking at my test papers and the CV was much pleased but I was not selected as I had not completed my graduation. She told me that I was a more preferred candidate than others as I had good marks and the only reason she is unable to appoint me is the graduation.
This was a great chance I missed in such a good company. I deeply regret for this but it was a great experience attending for such a big company. I enriched my exposure to attend more such interviews and the way I have to prepare myself for an interview.
