UTI is an authorized agent of the Income Tax Department to enable the people to apply for PAN cards. The PAN card is a mandatory identity proof to be obtained by all tax payers in India. UTISIL stands for UTI Services India Limited.

The UTISIL has many facilitation centers across India and also the PAN can be applied online through the portal of the UTISIL. The mandatory form 49A can be downloaded from the Income Tax department website or obtained at any facilitation centers. The filled in application form should be submitted along with Rs 94/- and documentary proof for address and identity of the applicant. The application will be rejected in case of any discrepancies.

In case, the application is made online the payment can be made wither by way of Demand draft or the credit card. The acknowledgment number is given upon successfully making the payment. After applying online, the physical documentary proofs as mentioned in the instructions of form 49A should be dispatched to the UTISIL for processing the application. After sending the application, the status can be tracked using the acknowledgment number. In case, the acknowledgment number is misplaced, opt for Track PAN Status using Name and date of birth. In this option, the name and surname along with date of birth should be mentioned to enable the system to return with the results. If the status appears that the PAN card is dispatched, the same will be received at the address mentioned in the application within 15 days.

The process is same in case of a request for change in PAN details or the request to issue duplicate PAN card. The difference is that the application should mention the PAN number and if available, a copy of the PAN which will serve as identity proof.
