Healthy Breakfast for a healthy life

A normal day in every one's life should start with a healthy breakfast. There are plenty of benefits attached with it which increase the importance of having it on a regular basis. Also, there are certain foods which must form a part of our breakfast. I have discussed some useful information about a healthy breakfast below.



 

Most things in life need a good start and so do human bodies. A healthy breakfast is a must to start any day on the right note. It gives a kickstart to the nutrition gain for our body during the entire day. A good beginning ensures that you stay fresh whole day long and your concentration levels are high in whatever you do.

Misconception


Many people on diet think that they can lose weight by skipping their breakfasts. This is a big misconception that people have. If you skip your breakfast, your energy levels go down pretty quickly,your body metabolism becomes slow,low sugar levels are maintained and you are not at your best in whatever you do throughout the day. Also, this increases your hunger and people on diet may end up eating more. So, skipping a breakfast is the worst thing one can do. It is not advisable at all. Instead of skipping, it is better to have a light, but, healthy breakfast. People on diet can opt to have a wholesome healthy breakfast and stick to salads,fruits and soup for lunch.

Why breakfast?


Regular healthy breakfast helps in maintaining a healthy weight and also improves overall health. Breakfast literally means you are breaking the fast after a long night of sleep (around 7-9 hours). It is often rightly said that "eat breakfast like a king". Higher energy levels are maintained if you eat breakfast. The only source of energy for brain is glucose and healthy breakfast helps maintain continuous supply of glucose to improve one's concentration and memory. A healthy breakfast ensures your brain keeps ticking at good pace throughout the day.

What to have for breakfast?


It is good to include variety of foods in your breakfast. A healthy breakfast may contain variety of foods like cereals, fruits, milk, vegetables, etc. During breakfast it is important to have almonds, which have been soaked overnight in water. These are good for memory. It is necessary to include carbohydrates or whole grains in your breakfast and this ensures satiety. A healthy breakfast gives a good boost to one's body metabolism. Depending upon the region we come from, there are various types of breakfast items available. One can have Upma, Poha, Idli Chutney, Dosas, Rotis, etc. in breakfast. It is necessary to accompany such items with sprouted moong or chana during breakfast. People who don't like having a hot breakfast can opt for Cornflakes / Muesli / Oats with milk or some fruits. Milk in any form is an important part of a healthy breakfast.

Timing of breakfast


Breakfast should be had within 45 to 60 minutes after we wake up in the morning. Preferably, one should have it early in the morning leaving enough time interval between breakfast and lunch. A healthy and timely breakfast will ensure that you won't feel hungry till lunch time. Though it is better to have some juice or eat a fruit between breakfast and lunch.
